Audi 2.0 TTS 2008 ABS, ESP, Tyre Pressure warning lights stay on

Hi All, have just bought 2008 Audi 2.0 TTS.

When the engine is started those lights stay on, the ABS, ESP and Tyre pressure.

Even though the Tyre pressure has been reset in the cars monitoring system.

The ABS brakes appear to work fine under heavy or moderate braking.

The previous owner who is not available did mention brake sensor.

Could this be the problem, if so how do you determine which one  is the problem.

Is there a safety issue here.

Hope some one can be of help.

I stay in Pattaya.

Thank You.

Regards Tom

If you just bought it from a dealercar sales person, IMO the best thing to do is to go back with a good Thai friend who can speak technical Thai and explain the problem and ask them to fix it, especially if the car has any sort of warranty.

If you bought it privately then it gets a little tricky. You can ask the seller for help which may or may not be forthcoming, or if there is an Audi dealer in Pattaya they may be able to fix the problem but it won't be cheap

Alternatively you can ask around for a repair shop specialising in exotic foreign cars but they won't be cheap either, though they should be cheaper than the Audi dealer.

back before moving to Thailand I had an Audi TT and an early S3 before that, I had a VAG-com cable and software to hook up the car to my notebook and diagnose and clear errors via the ODB2 port

Well by the sounds of it you have to go to Audi

So why don't you just go in 7 say that you need the biggest major service that is relevant to the odometer & take it from there (of cause it's going to cost ) , but look at it this way - You will know how the was & what was required to bring it up to scratch that will put you into the basic 10 K km services for the next yr

I have had similar issues with my Golf GTI. If driving through a bit of higher water on the road there is a chance that the ABS sensors located near the brakes of every wheel will malfunction.

This happened to me at least 4-5 times over a couple of years...dreaded the sound and look of this warning lights.

As i am located in Phuket I ordered straight from a shop in the USA with delivery within 5 days and let my local garage handle it. The issue is that you will need to connect to a maintenance computer to find out which one is the culprit or you order all 4 and have the other 3 spare when they go bad...as they will go bad and you save on shipping. No idea why they are so sensitive, it does rain quite a bit in Germany too.

this is one example of what needs to be changed:

Have you ever had the brake fluid flushed ?  ABS uses many small orifices to control brake line pressure to individual wheels. Dealer should have the correct equipment to do this. One solenoid very slightly sticking will trigger the light, as all 3 systems use the same sensors. And might be small enuf not to trigger a code, which is usually caused by one sensor signal not reaching the ECU.

Hi All, problem diagnosed, was directed to a workshop in Pattaya by the garage who often looks after my motor's, he plugged in his VAG diagnostic equipment, problem drivers side front abs Sensor, part ordered from Bangkok.

Will let you know the rest of the story when fixed.

Thank you.

Hi All, thank you, for All the replies.

Took the car to a workshop in Pattaya, he had the VAG diagnostic equipment, had the front Drivers side ABS sensor replaced, all went well all systems working ok. But alas the same warning lights came back on.

Then took the car to a specialist, workshop, Foreign  owner, he said the sensors all working fine, again the lights were all reset. His opinion battery charged to low keep topped up.

Then again All the warning lights back on, no ESP and suspension control not working, but ABS appears to be working fine even though warning light on. On 2 occasions whilst driving over 500 KM each leg,  the lights went off, all systems working ok, for a short time, then lights back on again.

Frustrating.

Any further advice available please.

Regards.

Tom

there is a very informative UK based Audi TT forum I used when I owned an Audi TT, maybe you could ask the questions there as there are many more Audi TT's on the road in the UK than Thailand.

I think it is against Thai Visa forum rules to post a direct link to other forum's however if you google 'ttforum uk' it is the top result that comes up.

I hope that helps

I would track down every ground on the car. Clean well, also all cables. Reassemble with dielectric grease.

95% of all issues we have with excavators, loaders, dozers and trucks are caused by a bad ground. If the sensor signal is corrupted in any way the MIL light will come on.

As all systems check out when the vehicle is stationary, but reappear while driving, this is where I would start.

Electrics are sometimes a slow, painstaking thing to track down. But at the end, it is usually something very simple.

No Audi dealers, this is why it is a very bad idea to buy audis when benz dealers are everywhere...

Private mechanics for German cars are not cheaper than any official dealer and do not have the correct computer to check electronic.
