Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha has instructed authorities concerned to brace for possible flooding in the Chao Phraya river basin during October 12-14 when heavy rain induced by an anticipated storm is to lash the upper region of the country, said government spokesman Lt-Gen Sansern Kaewkamnerd on Tuesday.

The Meteorological Department forecasted that, during October 12-14, a storm which was shaping up in Vietnam would move through upper Thailand and this would cause heavy rain in the lower part of the North and upper Northeast.

To brace for more heavy rain, the Irrigation Department has started discharging more water downstream from major dams such as Chao Phraya, Pasak Cholasit and Ubonrat and this will increase water level in areas outside floodwalls in Ayutthaya.

The poor PM must think he is King Canute.:cheesy:

King Canute and the waves - Wikipedia

"In the story, Canute demonstrates to his flattering courtiers that he has no control over the elements (the incoming tide), explaining that secular power is vain compared to the supreme power of God. The episode is frequently alluded to in contexts where the futility of "trying to stop the tide" of an inexorable event is pointed out, but usually misrepresenting Canute as believing he had supernatural powers, when Huntingdon's story in fact relates the opposite."
