Family Mart has stopped selling draft beer since October 8 in response to concern expressed by various organisations.

Central FamilyMart, which operates FamilyMart outlets in Thailand, announced its decision on Tuesday even as authorities vowed to take action against convenience stores that sold draft beer.

I am not sure the intent by the shops was to drink on the premises.
I for one prefer draught beer on the infrequent times that I drink. In the old days, 19th century, before the ubiquitous bottles and cans that is how it was done.. fill your own jug, bottle, pail, etc., and walk it home. There is a resurgence of the practice in the states with all of the craft and micro breweries popping up. I have even read of areas (Quingdao, China) where it is dispensed into plastic bags like they do with iced tea and coffee here.
The complaint, officially, is that the draft dispensers make it easier to obtain beer, the consumption of which some view as a potential health hazard. As others have observed it is really more convenient to go to the cooler and grab a tall Chang, etc.
Maybe too many WERE hanging out at the convenience shops, just not my preference.

I am going to have to stay far away from the balcony tonight, worst news ever....

My grandmother used to go to our local pub with an enamel jug and get her ale on tap.  This would be in the mid-1950's.

Perhaps they might start selling "draught" water instead of that rip-off price bottled water. You can be sure the Thais would soon invent a law against that so as to protect "vested" interests.

bbut where are the kids going to get their breakfast beer now?  You know beer, it's just not for breakfast anymore

This is going to upset the Russian quality-tourists !

Damn missed it at both 7-11 and Family Mart! Another great idea quashed by repressive Nanny State mentality which is taking over the world. :post-4641-1156693976:
