BANGKOK, 13 October 2017 (NNT) - The Department of Skill Development (DSD) is preparing to build up the skills of workers in the labor sector to pave the way for the Thailand 4.0 development era.

Speaking about fiscal year 2018, DSD Director-General Suthi Sukosol said the department would extend its labor enhancement scheme to different groups, particularly community enterprises and low-wage earners.

The DSD plans to ready various groups of people for the job market through diversified job training. Special emphasis will be placed on people with difficult job prospects, including people with disabilities, the elderly, ethnic minorities, and former drug addicts.

The DSD will also provide human resource development courses, such as installing drip irrigation systems managed by apps, automotive manufacturing, and advanced 3D animation to strengthen the competitiveness of Thai workers.

Vocational workers will be encouraged to take government skill workshops to expand their career options. The DSD expects to improve the skills of 3.7 million workers next year in support of all Thai industries.

"Special emphasis will be placed on people with difficult job prospects, including ........ former drug addicts".

This was done in the past and many of the reformed drug addicts became taxi and van drivers. Sadly, not all of them were successfully turned into  "former"......

Some of them still carry old tracks in their arms but they  changed their life around for good; others have the same old tracks in their arms but  didn't reform at all.....

They have have  just switched to a different drug which makes them difficult to talk to  and deal with, paranoid and bottom line dangerous for society at large.

For Gawd's sake, they drive people around.......

Where I live (on the outer-skirt of BKK) this is a sad reality.

You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink.

Are there even 3.7 mil. people here who WANT to learn/develop/better themselves?

Let's assume they do actually train 3.7 mil. people; are these newly trained employees going to earn a decent salary afterwards that reflects their newly acquired skill set? ฿ 300/day isn't really all that rewarding/inspiring.

Many of the skilled may end up driving taxis in tourist resorts where the average run (without a meter in the car)  gets you 300 THB in 20 minutes !!!
