rooster59
After the floods - online reports show another reason Bangkok stays under water! Image: Thai Rath Pictures and video posted online showed what was left after most of the water from Friday nights downpours had flowed away. Mountains of trash and plastic bottles gathered by the city's drains. Thai Rath said posters online commented that rubbish blocking the drains was another reason why Bangkok experiences such continual and serious flooding that takes ages to flow away. The deluge in the capital was severe with many roads impassable to smaller vehicles and sidewalks under water throughout the city. The pictures in this story came from the Ekamai area of Sukhumvit Road near the end of Soi 42. khunPer
Some public garbage bins, that of course are regular emptied and serviced, could help a lot here...
Golden Triangle
I saw that video yesterday and at the time I thought to myself that they only have themselves to blame, yes I do know that the drains can only take so much and it was a pretty severe downpour but all that crap doesn't help. Jonmarleesco
And what was it that social media posters were claiming, just days ago, about foreigners rubbish dumping? They really think foreigners are responsible for the crap that stuffs up the drainage system?

tifino
They'll never be able to stop the dumping, no matter the Laws and supposed punishments Instead, why not offer a typical 'compromise'... 'don't throw away your 'empties' with their tops off 'yes you can throw them away with their tops on' Open bottle sink and block. Sealed ones float, and don't block the drain nearest you, but will float away... ...into someone else's space far far away
rickudon
The cure is simple. One baht deposit on all plastic bottles. The gleaners will collect them all up even more enthusiastically than before, and will also make a better living. As for those who complain about the increased price, plenty of incentive to get there money back. Easy to fix. Next, plastic bags ....
