BANGKOK — Thailand officially entered the winter season Tuesday.

 

State meteorologists declared that Tuesday was the official start of the cool season based on weather conditions – cooler temperatures and less rain are forecast – and the reversal of prevailing winds to blow northeast.

Winter is here, says weather chief

Thailand’s winter has started and is expected to last until February, with the mercury likely to fall to its lowest point on Doi Inthanon in Chiang Mai province, at zero degrees Celsius, Meteorological Department director-general Wanchai Sakudomchai said on Tuesday.

 

Wanchai told a press conference that the winter season had officially begun on Monday.

 

He said the Kiew Mae Pan viewpoint spot on Doi Inthanon mountain would see temperatures dropping to 0-2 degrees Celsius during the coldest period in the coming months.

 

The lowest temperature in the Northeast is expected be in the range of around 8 to 15 degrees, while Bangkok is likely to sees lows of 19 to 21 degrees.

 

The coldest time of the year is expected to be in the second half of December through early January, Wanchai said.

 

The mercury will not fall sharply, but on a gradual basis.

 

That said, the weather would be colder overall and the cold spell would be longer than last year’s, the director-general added.

It would be nice for it to Freeze for a few days a year to kill off those nasty insects that bite you and scar you for life, take a look at your legs and start counting the scars. I have too many to count, but right now no little thieves trying to bite me, feels good to me.

 

15c feels good after that 40c can't wait for the snow.
