Moot point anyway as every other country with the exception of China and North Korea won't extradite them back to a military *********** and recognise their charges are politically motivated.

The Chinese couldn't care less whether the charges are politically motivated.China will do anything to advance and protect its interests - which to be fair is the position of most countries. But actually I don't think China would extradite.

Firstly the regime has very good relations with the Shinawatras. It won't take sides and repects all governments in Thailand - its unofficial advocate in ASEAN.

Secondly under the military regime (and frankly under all governments including Shin ones) Thailand is effectively (almost) a Chinese vassal state and cannot make "demands" even though Thailand is expected to extradite Chinese political dissidents.

Thirdly and most importantly unlike the current Thai leadership, the Chinese elite is composed of highly intelligent men who think strategically.Under the Party leadership democracy is not tolerated but there is a very clear understanding of popular legitimacy and moral authority. The Chinese leadership can read the entrails in Thailand as well as anyone. They know perfectly well the current situation is fluid and dangerous, and would be reluctant to take sides. Thus even if hypothetically at some future point members of the Thai Junta took refuge in Beijing, I doubt whether they would be returned to Bangkok to face treason charges under a democratic Thai government.

Wishful thinking. I have not heard of any politician that fled justice from a post coup military government ever been extradicted successfully. An illegal act of seizing power from a legitimate government has little to zero legal cooperation from any democratic country. It get worse when 2 coups went after the same family or affliliates. Thailand is the only country that has the bad distinction of 2 coups in the 21st century. Nothing to be proud of. In fact, shameful.
