Help! Pattaya deckchair operators go to the media as latest floods cause more beach misery

Pattaya beach operators have gone to the media to implore the authorities to repair sections of the sidewalk and beach that has been further damaged in the latest storms and floods.

 

Pattaya News reported serious erosion of sand after heavy downpours on Sunday night caused widespread flooding on beach road from the Pattaya police station all the way towards South Pattaya.

 

Sand was washed away, holes appeared and trees came down or were teetering making it impossible for deckchair operators to do any business yesterday.

 

Pictures online at the weekend showed the entire area under serious floodwater after the rains.

 

Efforts at beautifying the area now look back to square one as the fight against the elements looks like a losing one.

everytime it floods is a ''make work ''project for all the friends of politicaians with back hoes ..but..when the thais begin to grumble you know enough is enough...we need another solution...give us back our beach and our roads...we love the tourists,but dispise the buses and boats..

The fourteen years I have lived/ worked here, Pattaya Beach has always been “substandard” compared to other holiday resort beaches. It does not take a rocket scientist to know what is missing... it is called MAINTENANCE BUDGETING for the projects you implement. ( A bunch of clueless rookies manage this cash-cow tourist town.)

I really wonder why they did the landfill with sand. Should have used slate rock and then use a tamper to make it nice and stable as  I have done on my land. Had the same problem and the sand used to wash  away when it rained. Now problem is fixed.

Good question and the same applies up Dongtan Beach which collapses in the same way on an annual basis

Without wishing to alarm you, if a proper solution to beach flooding was ever put into action, it would likely require Soi 6 being dug up for a time (along with a few others).

Use granite boulders to build a sea wall 50-100 Mtrs out in the sea

incorporate a proper flood drainage system,

backfill the whole area with sand....

 

Then you can boast a world-class beach (well better than it is now)

 

Oh I forgot Thais don't read our forum

NCC1701A & I have shovels at the ready for digging up Soi 6.

Is that a current photo? It looks like a collapse that occurred over a year ago.

 

If it is a current one, I'm lovin' it as it shows up the clowns involved with the entire farcical project, not that they'll ever admit to it or fix it properly.

If enough disasters like this happen, it might make the citizens of Pattaya rise up out of their apathy and start demanding change. If the Chinese peasants can do so, why not Pattaya residents?

 

In the meantime, it's keeping Pattaya's reputation in the dog box, which is all that is keeping the families and the rich people away. so all good then.

it is now dangerous too,the bacteria and fecal matter is much higher in the sand and those speed boats have no concern when refueling on the beach..i was once a beach lover here in pattaya,now I am cautious even walking on this filthy sand..the thais have managed to destroy even pattaya...

I guess at the time there was a  lot of tree , there was also better stability.

Now that we only have pavement laid over sand it does not take long before it falls apart.

I am not a specialist but i guess i would have used cement to keep the pavement properly aligned and used a layer of concrete below.

Specialists let me know. But anyway erosion is unavoidable when the see is a few meters away from the road. And that is not only because of the rain.

  Since my first trip there in 2004 when I thought things were pretty great, up through I would say 2006  the road and paths were nice.  I even remember flower beds up at the north end of beach road.  Now, wow.  Just a mess.

you are on the right track.  And of course the trees used to make the place very pretty.  That hack job a few years ago, and those stadium lights.  ugh.  zero goodness

Nothing to do with Global Warming. This is plain and simple bad consruction methods.

The original beach was a large area of flat sand that was covered in natural trees like the large tamarind and tropical almonds. These have massive root beds that hold the sand in place. The stupid idiots have cut these down and put in small palm trees and coconut trees with virtually no root ball.

 

They have no clue about mixing the correct amount of sand and concrete which ends up a crumbling mess when the Sois turn in to water chutes, channeling the water in to torrents that never existed 60 years ago. The rain landed on the ground and was soaked in to it or ended up as low lying ponds that did not turn in to rivers. Which strangley enough would have been good for making Paddi fields for growing rice.............you have to work with nature not fight it.

World resort then, never seen a hole like this in Miami or Spain, must be new architecture, design or something. just stick the rubbish on the beach to it cover it with concrete and it will last for a few months.
