Stevess Posted November 3, 2017 Posted November 3, 2017 I have ordered a (vintage) camera lens, worth 1700 baht, to be sent by EMS from Japan. I am currently at the stage of confirming the shipping method. I am allowed to change the item value (which I want to keep the same) and mark as a gift, which I hear makes it easier to pass through customs without taxes. Is this true, as the value of the item is over 1000baht, and will I still be charged? If so, how much do you estimate? What if I don't mark the item as a gift at all? Is there any estimate to the taxes in this case, or does it just depends? Thanks for replies and ideas.
keeniau96 Posted November 3, 2017 Posted November 3, 2017 EMS best for minimum hassle, low-value items usually just slide through.

Crossy Posted November 3, 2017 Posted November 3, 2017 Amazingly, Thai customs are not daft. The "gift" label will likely make no odds whatever. At 1,700 Baht EMS may well just buzz through. "I don't want to know why you can't. I want to know how you can!"
