Factories told to strictly take preventive measures against fires during dry season

All factories risky of being hit by fires during the dry season have been told to strictly follow the Industry Ministry’s fire safety manual, permanent secretatry for industry Pasu Loharjun said on Nov 3.

 

Mr Pasu said he had instructed Mongkol Pruekwattana, director-general of the Department of Industrial Works, Veerapong Chaiperm, governor of the Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand (IEAT) and chief of provincial industry offices throughout the country to strictly take precautions against fires.

 

He said there are about 14,000 factories throughout the country risky of catching fires.  They include cassava flour, textile, weaving, garment, wooden furniture, paper, paint, tinner, fireworks, rubber and plastic factories.

The greater danger is the locals setting fire to their rubbish on their land, including the plantationers.  There needs to be a programme to educate people, then the Government needs to get out and about to check that people are not arbitratily setting fire to rubbish and other cuttings.
