webfact
Black Eagle swoops on criminals again - they are all black Picture: Daily News The Tourist Police's "Black Eagle" task force carried out its tenth raid on criminals posing a "risk to national security and tourism" on Tuesday. All those arrested in 33 locations and who had their records taken were black Africans. Thai Rath made no secret of the fact that the targets were illegal black immigrants saying the "Africans had sneaked into Thailand" in their headline. Newly appointed deputy chief of the Tourist Police Bureau Surachet Hakpan was photographed with those arrested in swoops in Bangkok including Si Phraya, Rankhamhaeng, Sai Mai and Lat Prao. Thai Rath said that the swoop was designed to target lawbreakers who were a risk to national security, national image and tourism. Those targeted were involved in counterfeiting, romance scams, credit card fraud, fake gem importation and drugs. Six illegals were arrested - these were three from Somalia and one each from Guinea, Gambia, and Tanzania. Three on overstay were also apprehended - two from Nigeria and one from Cameroon. Nine others had their records recorded. The Thai news media said that this was Black Eagle's tenth set of raids. A total of 154 places have now been raided with 96 arrests and 183 people having their details recorded. With these people sneaking in, and influential (rich) people sneaking out, it appears the system has quite a few loopholes.

Why target old fat white guys if its younger black guys commiting the crimes. No recism there

Where I live they are standing in groups outside tourist locations for 6-8 hours a day calling out to passers by (but always westerners, never Thais), an activity upon which you can put no innocuous interpretation whatsoever. There are many other adjectives in both languages that could have been used instead of "black". The BiB is enforcing the law, but while doing so, incurring unnecessary bad feelings about racism. There is a difference between being PC and just avoiding undue insult.

It ended up being a case of mistaken identity.

These guys are selling their asses, pimping their women and selling drugs. But in the past the police check their passports and let them off if their visas are still valid. The police have only worried about visa overstay. However its not hard to work out that these gangs are working illegally on tourist, education or teaching visas. The police should be able to pull them all in after a brief observation, and deport the lot of them for breach of visa rules. Never mind having to prove that each one is involved in drugs and pimping. Edited November 8, 2017 by Ketyo Correction

retarius
I never understood the left wing problems with 'profiling'. Marketers profile all the time, it's their job....no good trying to sell a Ferrari to a 90 year old homeless blind woman. Target the profiles of the people that commit the crimes....in the case of terror principally young, muslims; and apparently here in Thailand, black africans. They can have no complaint if they are committing crimes or are here illegally. Let the legals stay and toss out the rest or send them to prison. biggles45
Surely it makes sense to assign police resources to known criminal groups? Now in our PC countries it is called "racial profiling" but if they weren't shown to be committing crimes there would be no problem.

Yes, it does smack of racism, or really poor police work, as do many of the congratulatory comments.
Jools
Thailand needs a taste of what South Africa got for its vile apartheid regime. The racism that I see here daily, disgusts me. RichardColeman
If you know that for every 10 black Africans you can arrest two, I'd say that pretty much fits the bill for racial profiling 100%
