CCTVs to be installed in important tourist destinations in Phuket

Phuket police officers are determined to install all Close Circuit Televisions (CCTVs) around the island before February 15th 2007, and security in the province is fully intensified.

Phuket Provincial Police Commander Decha Budnampetch said CCTVs are being installed in many areas of the province, including important tourist destinations, and the installation process is progressing well. He said the budget for this scheme comes from the CEO Governor’s budget. By February 15th, 48 CCTVs will be installed in three areas of Phuket. They include the districts of Muang, Patong as well as Kata and Karon beaches.

Pol. Maj. Gen. Decha said the provincial police have stepped up their security measures and they have been told not to be inattentive. More police forces will also be dispatched during the high tourism season.

However, he would like members of the public to help the officials by looking for suspicious activities or objects in their surroundings to prevent any mishap.
