BANGKOK, 13 November 2017 (NNT) - The government is ready to host the Air Race 1 World Cup Thailand 2017 next weekend. The event is expected to generate more than 3.45 billion baht in revenue for tourism and business sectors.

The Government Spokesman, Lt. Gen. Sansern Kaewkamnerd, said the government has joined force with the private sector to host the Air Race 1 World Cup Thailand 2017 from November 17th to 19th, 2017, at U-Tapao International Airport of Rayong province. A total of 16 aircraft will be competing in the final round.

Thailand will be the first country in Asia to host the event which is expected to be attended by about 100,000 people from 100 countries. Of the total 70,000 will be Thais and 30,000 will be foreign tourists. It is also expected that the event will generate an income for tourism industry and related businesses by more than 3.45 billion baht, he said.

This event is part of the International Fleet Review 2017 to mark the 50th anniversary of the Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN), which is being held from November 13th to 22nd in Pattaya, Chon Buri, and other nearby provinces. This is the government’s effort to practically implement the concept of "Sports Tourism”, he added.

Thai people are invited to take part as a good host to welcome the athletes and tourists from all over the world and to observe these two important international events, said Lt. Gen. Sansern.

Better wear a helmet if one has to step outside next weekend.....never know .. if the chap who maintains tourist buses is the same fellow servicing the private planes..:sorry:

Other countries normally tell how proud they are to host an event, how they will show newcomers the beauty of their country and the friendliness of the people...

In thailand they boil it all down to how much money they are going to make. Money, money, money!

You would think there would be a Red Bull air race here in Thailand due to a certain somebody owning half the company

Wonder why not?

thailand struggles to stay relevant..when the world wants only clean beaches ,quite streets with out tour buses, and a good bang for their buck....its not complicated...dial back the clock 20 years...and they will come

About 100,000 people expected to attend.

That's some number.

They'll be stacking them up to the ceilings in Sattahip!

100,000 people eh?
Are they the overstayers we were told about?

They are currently dialing back the clock even further. To a period of admiring your highest leader, not wanting voting rights, and not complaining about human rights.

It looks like a really interesting event, but yeah nothing is more interesting than money in Thailand.  They only care about either prestige or money.  What the event is about means nothing to them.

I had thought about visiting this.

But not with 100,000 people.

And then I remembered the nonstop, blaring, distorted music and equally relentless shrieking from Thai commentators that I have experienced at similar "popular" events.

Even with "only" 10000 it would be intolerable.

Thailand will be the first country in Asia to host the event......

Really? Then the Air Race 1 held at U-Tapao last year 2016 was hosted by whom?

Let's hope that none of the competitors suffer from failed brakes......

I went last year. I would guess there were 3,000-5,000 there the day I went.
