The Royal Thai Police has issued an order instructing all police officers to dress properly and wear short haircuts.

In the urgent order signed on Wednesday (Nov 15) by Pol Gen Chakthip Chaijinda, all police officers on duties must dress properly and have short haircuts in accordance with the Prime Minister’s Office regulation on civil servants’ uniform and hair style.

He noted in particular when the police are in uniforms, and wearing caps, their hairstyles must show that they strictly abide by the rules and disciplines of the police regulations.

"Pol Get Chakthip said the proper dress and short haircuts will be among the criteria in assessment of their performance at the end of the year.

He also said that the commissioner has also tightened grip on fat police to go diet or reduce their weights. Moreover, police are not suppose to wear moustache and beard for the good image of the organization."

Looks like reform of the RTP is at last dealing with the big issues.

Despite all that can (or cannot !) be said towards the boys in brown, I cannot recall a police officer overweight, with a heavy metal rock star style haircut, in a badly cut uniform ? But could be different in the villages ?

Their uniforms seem tight but well fitted - better then in many other countries.

A lot of them don't anyway, regardless of their dress and hairstyle.

True, and perhaps even more important to be enforced is complete scheduling of appropriate police duties (aligned to the reason for existence of the police / any police), and close very regular monitoring. It's clear that many more senior police don't even know where their officers are let alone what they are doing. (Obvious example, the cops involved with driving YS to the border.)

A twist - police who are allowed to sit their shift in gold shops for extra income, usually having to share their extra money with heir police boss.
