Police hunt down a suspect who seriously hurt 19-month-old girl

Pol Gen Wirachai Songmetta, a deputy police chief, on Saturday (Nov 18) went to Chon Buri Hospital to pay a visit to Thanyarat Otchanthuk, a one year and seven months old girl, who was abducted from a house in Bang Lamung district on Nov 11 and later found to be seriously hurt.

After the visit, Pol Gen Wirachai held a meeting with police investigators to follow up the police hunt for Chana Chalermyart, a new boyfriend of the girl’s mother, who is the suspect in the case.

The mother told police investigators that on Nov 11 Chana came to her house and took away Thanyarat, saying that he would buy her some sweets.  However, she and her relatives began to look for them after they did not return, but could not find them.  She finally filed a complaint with Bang Lamung police.

Disgusting.

Did the mom know the new boyfriend was a criminal?

Why didn't she alarm the police when the child wasn't brought back the same day?

Is there a tree high enough the hang the guy from so everybody can see it?

What a sick ....! Who would do such a thing to a wee harmless infant?

The mind boggles to understand some of the news articles I read.

Is there any home left for humanity?

After the visit, Pol Gen Wirachai held a meeting with police investigators to follow up the police hunt for Chana Chalermyart, a new boyfriend of the girl’s mother, who is the suspect in the case.  Pol Gen Wirachai said Chana is the prime suspect and the police are looking for him.  Chana is on police record as having been involved in drug cases and committed several crimes, he said.

This is one answer to the perception that Thai women are off Thai men.
Obviously not representative of Thai men in general, but the stories hit the media hard and they naturally go right to a mother's heart.
There may even be some truth that Western culture men are more inclined to be supportive of women as a cultural difference. The US is a bit behind Europe on this and seems to be suffering a  bit of regression, but there is a longer history there of efforts towards social equality.
It would perhaps be useful if there were some way for Thai ladies to vet prospective boyfriends for a history of criminality and/or abuse.
Best wishes for the poor baby, and good luck to the cops in running the POS to ground.
Momma, I do not know what to advise for you. Maybe can only wish you good luck if you feel like you want a man in your life. Shop more with good daddy in mind, maybe, though this one hit a good note with taking baby for sweets. Maybe say "Oh, I like sweets too! Let us all go together."
Slow life when you have children is safest.

She did inform the police after both she and her relatives searched for the child and the boyfriend. If you had read the story you would have seen that. The police told her at 08:30 the following morning so she must have told the police the day the child vanished. The police would have been notified by the hospital at some time after the child had been admitted.

Do you think that every Thai woman checks with the police to find out if her new boyfriend has a criminal record. Do you think that every Thai man checks with the police to see if his new girlfriend has a police record?

I don't think that there is any real communication between police in different provinces and there does not seem to be a central database of criminals either.

Do you think by just turning up at any police station that the police will just give out information like thqat to anyone who asks?

Loosely translated... police will wait for suspect to turn himself in.
