Cambodia votes against UN Rohingya resolution

Cambodia was among just 10 countries to vote against a “contentious” United Nations draft resolution on the persecution of Rohingya in Myanmar on Thursday.

In all, 135 countries voted in favour of the draft resolution, while only Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos, Philippines, Belarus, Myanmar, China, Russia, Syria and Zimbabwe voted against it.

The draft calls on the Myanmar government to protect the rights of Rohingya, a Muslim ethnic group. More than half a million have poured over the border into Bangladesh since August 25, fleeing what they describe as coordinated assaults on Rohingya villages.

A difficult situation. The Rohingya certainly seem to have control of the media while muslin attacks on Christians goes mainly unpublicised. Why is it that no country, even adjoining muslim countries, do not wish anything to do with these people ? and let,s not forget that they started the violence !

Because they are primitive and impossible people to live with, they want to have their own rules and culture and live independantly like a closed tribe while still demanding. No population, no country would like to co-habitate with such kind of people. Countries voting for them should give a good example by taking them on board.

China already getting big problem with the uigours a similar population.

I don't really know much about the situation apart from what I read in the newspapers/internet. One reflexively supports an underdog who is being persecuted violently, and that is now basically what is being presented for our consumption from almost all outlets.

I'm curious about why Syria voted it down, if anyone has any info on this.
