BANGKOK, 20th November 2017 (NNT) – Deputy Prime Minister ACM Prajin Junthong has made known the government is developing a local level infrastructure database with the aim of better managing water resources.

Speaking on “Thailand Moves Forward” Deputy Prime Minister ACM Prajin Junthong said yesterday that the database will seek to sustainably manage water in 25 of the country’s river basins. The information collected in the database will be used to inform decisions on water, and ensure that storage of supplies is efficient and within the targets set by the 2015-2026 water management strategy. The goal is to establish water security for the agricultural sector as well as to mitigate natural disasters.

Director of the National Statistics Office, Puchapong Nodtaisong indicated that the agency had created an index for measuring the effectiveness of water management that analyzes data from both the state’s own database and from other sources. The office is to take 30 months, ending September 2019, to extrapolate its first index result.
