A police officer speaks with the wife and children of security guard Somchai Yarmdee on Thursday at Phra Nang Klao Hospital, where he has been recovering from his injuries.

BANGKOK — A security guard struck and run over by a health official earlier this month is now expected to recover, the doctor in charge of his care said Sunday.

Although he showed sign of mental impairment, Somchai Yarmdee emerged from the coma he had been in since earlier this month, according to Sakhon Sukprom, deputy director of Phra Nang Klao Hospital. Somchai remains in the hospital’s critical care unit, and doctors are keeping close watch on his condition, Sakhon said.

Those two statements seem to contradict each other.

'Sakhon said Somchai’s brain is functioning at “14 out of 15.” He estimated it could take the patient up to a year to make a full recovery.'

I hope that's true [that he recovers that is, not it taking a year].

Thanks for that, link wouldn't open for me...internet issues.

I bet the good doctor who ran him down is breathing a sigh of relief. I hope he makes a full recovery and that the doctor gets the bill for the whole damn lot plus a fat chunk of compensation on top. I still want the doc to see jail time cos what he did was horrific.

I wish him him well and hope he makes a full recovery...

as for the Doctor...he deserves the book thrown at him, terrible and disgusting person.... heartless....

I hope that Somchai manages to make a full recovery.  The doctor concerned is a disgrace to our profession.

Doesn't bear thinking about what would happen if you turned up 15 minutes late for an appointment at DR Yorns surgery.

pity if this doctor does get off; he will do the normal inane thai social practices to escape blame; then money to victim, then money to prosecutor and/or judge;

result: suspended sentence

Is he able to....?

Now that we seem to getting down to a non murder or manslaughter situation we can slowly cruise on to a slap on the wrist,a 500bt fine and an apology to his family. unless of course they can string it out til all is forgotten

In my opinion, the security guard requires a great deal ( at least 1.5 to 2 years) of time to be recovered fully.

Somchai Yarmdee may also develop Epilepsy either now or later, head injuries are very serious.

฿1,000,000/฿2,000,000 for a payoff is no answer.

Best of luck Somchai.

The good doctor didn't show any remorse for his cruel act against this man, why would he be relieved that a person so far below his own status is alive or not!

Hope you recover.

I also hope that evil doctor goes down for 10 plus years.

Awesome news get a good lawyer!!! Get well!

But will he also make a complete physical recovery or need medication for the rest of his life ? I find it difficult to believe he will ever be 100% and be able to lead a full life again.

I think this is just propaganda by the hospital  to help the " doctor's " case

It is far too early to give an accurate assessment on the victims medical condition

Agree. I'd like to hear what the family says about his condition rather than just the hospital.

  • 2 weeks later...
