Laem Chabang Port, cruise stopover

We have friends from the UK who are stopping over at Laem Chabang Port tomorrow night as part of a cruise in the area.

They want to meet up, we're considering driving from Bangkok and finding somewhere to stay near the port and then having an evening with them.

I'm not sure what the area of the port is like, are there reasonable hotels in the area and are there places to eat and drink nearby?

I would be grateful for any pointers.

I suppose we could suggest they get a taxi to Pattaya and meet up there, I'm assuming taxis wouldn't be a problem for the return trip.

I picked up friends on a cruise ship at Laem Chabang a year or two ago and I drive through there quite often.

Laem Chabang itself is a shipping port and industrial area which I would describe as without any interest for foreign tourists. If there are good hotels and upmarket restaurants there I certainly dont know where they are. There are plenty of cheap Thai eating places, of course.

However Sri Racha is just few km away and has everything you could want, with an interesting tilt towards Japanese style. It is also pleasantly sedate and sophisticated. And if sedate and sophisticated does not appeal then Pattaya is just a few more km in the other direction and is easily accessible. Pattaya has more hotels and restaurants than you can shake a stick at. You might like to consider the Naklua area as being closest to Laem Chabang, thus avoiding the worst of the traffic.

OP just let Google help you :-)

if you type into Google search " cheap hotels in Laem Chabang Port " you will then get a brief list and even a small map on the right side screen with each property labelled with the price in THB.

If you click your mouse on any of those price labels a panel will appear with a link direct to the website of that hotel. Or you can zoom straight in on any property and move the little yellow man at the bottom of the screen changing over to Google Street view so you can see it from the outside:smile:

looking for hotels is no longer the ordeal that it used to be
