The owner of a gold shop at Tesco Lotus in Chonburi has offered a 300,000 baht reward after 535 baht weight of gold was stolen by armed robbers yesterday evening.

Around 7pm three men dressed in black with black gloves and full face helmets entered the store and menaced the staff at the Tamnak Thong 5 store with guns.

They made off on two bikes in the direction of Chonburi town.

The Bangkok plates on the black Honda Zoomer X and the black and white Honda MSX were ลตส 492 and ยขจ 484 respectively. Police said they were likely to be false plates.

Owner of the store Chaiyaporn Kittrakunthong has offered a 300,000 baht reward leading to the capture of the robbers.

Region 2 police chief Jitti Rotbangyang called a meeting at 11.30pm at Samet police station where teams of investigators were assigned responsibilities such as checking of CCTV and criminal suspects' records.

A meeting will be held every day at 10pm to report progress in the case.

The value of the gold was not reported in the Thai Rath story but Thaivisa notes that at today's prices it is likely to be well in excess of 10 million baht.

You can tell they are real pros by the way one of them leaves his gun on the counter..

A meeting will be held at 10pm, bit stupid as they will all be tanked up on lao kao.

Surely better to have a progress meeting at 10am, when there is a chance they might be sober.

Since the cops tend to give themselves the reward.

A far easier way to earn 300k, catch 3 people smoking on the beach in Pattaya.

The real stupidity is to place a gold shop inside a supermarket !

No security , I am surprised this does not happen more often .  Maybe we will see more of it in the future.

Three gunmen stormed into a gold shop in a Tesco Lotus shopping mall in Chon Buri province on Wednesday evening and made off with ornaments weighing 535 baht and worth Bt10.6 million.

Police said the robbery took place at around 7pm at the Yaowaraj gold shop in the mall on Sukhumvit Road in Moo 1 village in Tambon Samed, Muang district.

Police said the three robbers had donned black clothes and full-sized crash helmets to conceal their identity and also wore gloves.

They went to the front of the shop and one of them fired a shot to intimidate staff while another gang member swept all the gold ornaments into a black plastic bag.

The whole operation lasted only about a minute and the three fled on two motorcycles.

Witnesses told police that they saw the three driving their motorcycles towards the Chon Raj Amrung School intersection.

Police said the two motorcycles apparently used fake licence plates.

Chaiyaporn Kijtrakulrat, 53, the shop owner, estimated the value of the stolen ornaments at Bt10.6 million. He offered a reward of Bt3 million to anyone who could provide information to police that could lead to the arrest of the three robbers.

Bt300,000 reward offered in Bt12m gold shop robbery

By PREEWADEE WICHAIPRASIT

A Bt300,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest of three gunmen who stormed into a gold shop in a Tesco Lotus shopping mall in Chon Buri province on Wednesday evening and made off with gold ornaments worth Bt12 million, weighing 607 baht (around 9 kilograms).

Tamnak Thong 5 gold-shop manager Wisut Kham-ngern, 56, yesterday cited eyewitnesses who said the robbers spoke Thai clearly and with a youthful tone of voice.

No police were guarding the shop at the time of the robbery due to the local force’s staffing shortage, he said.

Wisut said he couldn’t believe the robbers would dare to rob the store as it was in a high-traffic location in the mall on Sukhumvit Road in Moo 1 village in Tambon Samed, Muang district.

Chaiyaporn Kijtrakulrat, 53, the shop owner, filed a request with police for documents to submit for an insurance claim. He confirmed the stolen gold ornaments weighed 607 baht.

Police said the robbery took place at around 7pm.

Three robbers wore black clothes, gloves, and full-sized crash helmets to conceal their identity, said police.

They went to the front of the shop, where one robber fired a shot to intimidate staff while another member swept all the gold ornaments into a black plastic bag before running out of the shop.

The whole operation lasted only about a minute and the three fled on two motorcycles, which they had parked at the side of the mall.

Witnesses saw the three driving their motorcycles towards the Chon Raj Amrung School intersection.

Police initially said the two motorcycles – identified as a Honda Super X and a Honda MSX – apparently used fake licence plates. They later corrected the information, saying that the licence plates were authentic but placed on the different bikes.

Further examination of CCTV footage along the route found that the robbers went towards Bang Saen, took a left turn to the Liang Muang Chon Buri Road heading towards Bangkok, before passing through an intersection in front of a Caltex gas station and passing out of CCTV surveillance.

Chalermkiat and Provincial Police Region 2 deputy chief Pol Lt-General Jitti Rodbangyang joined a meeting yesterday with Chon Buri police to discuss the hunt for the robbers.

Following the meeting, Chalermkiat said the probe had made a lot of progress.

What's the point if the gold is not recovered?  The police will just arrest three fall guys and keep the gold.

Check the CCTV footage for several days before the holdup; those guys cased this joint first, should be able to find those bikes parking together earlier in the week.

Inside job.

The gold is stolen by thieves working for the shop.

Insurance money is paid out but the gold is recycled back to the shop owner.

The police were in on the scheme from the off. This is the safest way to go in Thailand. Hence no guard due to staffing shortages (from the most bloated police force on the planet).

Police in Thailand manage all organised crime so always know who the criminals are, where they are and always have patsies to arrest.

The police get their agreed pay-off in plain sight as a reward.

Does this answer your question?
