Snared by New Blood Pressure Guidelines. Now What?

Just saw this article on HBP

So, what are the 'correct and valid' figures for today?

 

How about this chart?

If not in meds then do it.. No reason not to.  First line meds: Ace Inhibitor / Diuretic / Angiotensen Receptor Blocker.

I don't know where you got that chart but it is not accurate.

 

Especially the supposed "mimimums". Very inaccurate. BPs og 90/60 and above are not too low in any adult, and some people tolerate  BPs of /80-89 systolic, 50-59 diastolic quite well.

 

As to the new guidleines basically all they have done is replace the term "pre-hypertension" with Stage I hypertension", the recommended treatment remains the same for people in that range.

They are refining their methods, taking age into account. Something similar is happening with BMIs. It's an evolving situation. I had 20 /20 vision at 20, now I wear glasses, it doesn't mean I'm going blind.
