Snared by New Blood Pressure Guidelines. Now What?

Featured Replies

Just saw this article on HBP

So, what are the 'correct and valid' figures for today?

How about this chart?

If not in meds then do it.. No reason not to.  First line meds: Ace Inhibitor / Diuretic / Angiotensen Receptor Blocker.

most cheap and nearly side effect free

I don't know where you got that chart but it is not accurate.

Especially the supposed "mimimums". Very inaccurate. BPs og 90/60 and above are not too low in any adult, and some people tolerate  BPs of /80-89 systolic, 50-59 diastolic quite well.

As to the new guidleines basically all they have done is replace the term "pre-hypertension" with Stage I hypertension", the recommended treatment remains the same for people in that range.

Thank you very much for the invaluable information, Sheryl.

I got the chat from here >>> https://healthiack.com/blood-pressure-chart

And below is their notice - quick check shows just about any chart you could want available on that page with absolutely no indication of source.

Here is another chart; source shown bottom right

They are refining their methods, taking age into account. Something similar is happening with BMIs. It's an evolving situation. I had 20 /20 vision at 20, now I wear glasses, it doesn't mean I'm going blind.
