Commerce Minister and deputy hand down policy on first official day of work

BANGKOK, 5th December 2017 (NNT) – The new Minister of Commerce and his deputy have handed down policy to do with developing the grassroots economy and driving forward the government’s Pracharat and welfare programs.

Newly appointed Minister of Commerce, Sonthirat Sonthijirawong yesterday assumed his duties at the ministry’s headquarters alongside new Deputy Minister of Commerce Chutima Boonyaprapasara. The two arrived in the morning and paid homage to the deity shrine in front of the Ministry of Commerce before meeting with the office’s top officials.

Handing down policy, the two called for proactive work in line with the government’s policies for 2018, a year devoted to the development of the grassroots economy, career building, market penetration for community goods and fair consumption. The policies also extended to managing daily living costs, advancing the government welfare scheme and ensuring robust growth in the export sector.

Acknowledging time constraints on the goals of the ministry, Sonthirat said the office must spend its final year under the current administration working diligently. He said ministry agencies such as the Department of Internal Trade, Department of Business Development and the Public Warehouse Organization will have to expend the utmost effort in their areas of concern.

Chutima has been tasked with overseeing the Department of Trade Negotiations, Department of Foreign Trade and the SUPPORT Arts and Crafts International Centre of Thailand.
