Hey team. The line up at consular was pretty hectic yesterday, especially as Tuesday was a holiday.

Anyway, after finally submitting my app and gaining the elusive ticket/number, we noticed that our number cluster was being missed. After waiting some time we queried this, and the good lady there informed us to come back tomorrow to pay.

My question is, did she mean after 1pm at visa collection time or in the morning? I'm worried now if I don't pay this morning, it may not get processed today?

i think they decided yesterday to only push thru certain types for payment as it was very busy and only one woman there processing the payments. They did this around the 1215 mark.

You pay the fee when you pickup your passport at 1:30 pm the next day after applying.

Vientiane has been doing it that for some time now.

Same with the photocopy of passport, they also want copy of Laos visa in passport, but it don't say that on app form! Crazy, just little deets that cld make a huge difference.

Same as the application form, crazy they don't have updated one on website to dl, fill out and be super organised before arriving.

Its like they thrive on kaos!

Well I got the visa no drama, BUT, at Suvarnabhumi immigration, man they were brutal!!!! WTHell!

They wete just shooting us down like ducks.

Whats the point of going thru 5-6hrs of line ups and application process, get approval, then arrive at the airport for some CLOWN/CLOWNS, sitting at a counter telling u that there's a problem!!!?? Freaking arse holes

I first came here on TR visa plus 30 day extension from Australia, then to Laos for another tr visa plus 30 day extension, and now this latest Laos visa run. Is this gonna be a problem on my next run? Shld I look at doing an alternative run?

Me at counter, friendly, smiling. Proper greeting, guy at counter, reading passport, where's ur return ticket?? Me, sorry? Why do I need a return ticket? I just got here, I got at least 60days before I got to leave. Man at counter, NO, u Wait there. New guy takes me away with another few chaps.

New man at counter, why u here in MY country?? Like wot the #%%, I felt like asking him if he owned all if thailand. But no I smiled and said, visiting my gf. Reading passport more, I know why u here, u wanna stay here long time, u like my country, blah blah blah.

I'm like yeh dude I do love ur country, I also love my girlfriend, and if u like I can call her so u can clarify what I said,  pretty sure she won't be very happy with u dude. Lol.

Ok, stand over there, ( in front of camera). Ok u can go.

Was this just just a scare tactic? I am pretty careful with my appearance and I've never been hassled before.

Total of 3, including this latest one.

They cracked down on consecutive tourist visas recently (over a year ago) and will give you a good questioning upon arrival.  Apparently you are not allowed more than 3 in one year...?
My daughter (age 6 and homeschooled) had this problem.  We travel a lot and each time she arrived the Thai immigration would tell us she was not supposed to be allowed in and we had to get her a visa.
With no other option we ended up getting her a Thai Elite visa.
Just as an aside, its weird for kids as there are 2 competing laws.  Kids can stay in Thailand under the age of 14 and "follow" their parents visas, however kids ENTERING Thailand have to have a valid visa.  As we travel in and out a lot and she wasn't studying at school here there was no other route.
Anyway slightly off topic but just to say that yes even (parents of) British 6 year old has had several "grillings" by Thai immigration at both Suvarnabhumi and Utapao.

Children cannot follow their parents visas. There is no such allowance. Children under the age of 15 do not pay overstay fines but do get overstay stamps. Not being fined for an overstay does not mean they do not need a valid permit to stay from a visa or an extension of stay.

There is no rule that states you can't have more than 3 in one year,

Yet again we hear of people having issues at the Airport, solution, use land crossings instead if International flights where possible

Correct Ubon Joe.  Jomtien immigration told me there was no need to worry as she cannot be fined.  However trying to get back in would cause problems.  And so it did!  She had 6 tourist visas before we got her an Elite (5 years). Although we never stayed in Thailand for the 30 day "allowance" of the tourist visa - just a few days or 2 weeks max.

That's right Darren there is nothing written down about the consecutive stamps but it was definitely a directive and we experienced it at both Suvarnabhumi and Utapo.  We visited 3 different (Pattaya) visa shops for advise plus Jomtien immigration.  Visa shops couldn't help and Jomtien basically said better to stay in Thailand and not travel :-)

It seems you arrived on Visa Exempts and not Tourist Visas, there is a big difference

Continued use of VE attract more attention from Immigration at the Airports

Can u get 60 day tr with land crossing?

You can if you have a tourist visa to use for entry.

Sorry, but I'm having difficulty understanding.

If if I have a tr visa to enter neighbouring country?

what I'm asking is, if after I get another 30 day extension here at hua hin, so total 90 days here,   I travel over land border, maybe into Burma, is it possible to apply/gain a 60 day tr visa for Thai? After I've already had total 3 back to back tr visa, all by air?

Sorry for not quite getting what u said.

You can only get a Tourist Visa at a Thai-consulate - not at any border.

If you have Zero or One Land-Visa-Exempt crossings this calendar year, you can get one by using any crossing which will allow you to return for a visa-exempt entry.  You will need to enter the other country (get stamped in) and return.

You can get a 30-day Visa Exempt at some Burmese crossings, but not all.  Malaysia, Cambodia, and Laos are other options.

Laos crossings involve the least trouble, generally.

Coming back in to Thaland from Cambodia is no problem at any border-crossing *except Poipet/Aranyaprathet* (avoid this one), but be prepared for haggling and rip-offs on your VOA to enter Cambodia.

Some Thai crossings to Malaysia have reports indicating you have to stay there overnight in Malaysia, before Thailand will let you re-enter Visa-Exempt.
