A 43-year-old village headwoman, who woke up to find a gun pointed at her head and was tied up by two men who had invaded her home in Angthong’s Sawengha district early yesterday, managed to untie herself, then grab a hidden gun and shoot and wound the intruders.

After receiving a report of a home intrusion and robbery, police went to the victim’s two-storey home in Tambon Si Pran at 7am.

Sawaengha Police Station superintendant Pol Colonel Krittidech Sirichannont said they had found a blood trail that indicated where the intruders had fled the house belonging to village headwoman Pornnipa Khongyai.

Pornnipa told police that she was sleeping alone at home when two men broke into her house at about 4am through the back window.

She said the men put a gun to her head and tied her up in her bedroom while they ransacked the house looking for her pistol, cash and valuables. After the men went to search an area on the ground floor where she told them that she had hidden her gun, she untied herself and pulled out the pistol from under her pillow.

The intruders returned to the bedroom just as she managed to arm herself and she opened fire at them. She said the men then fled through the back of house and sped away on a motorcycle.

It was reported that the two men had left with Bt5,000 in cash, a gold necklace worth about Bt100,000 and a mobile phone.

Police officers collected evidence including eight spent cartridges and three bullets at the scene. Although officers contacted local hospitals to discover if anyone had sought treatment for a gunshot wound, they had not located any suspects as of press time.

Police would also check CCTV cameras along possible escape routes in the hunt for the intruders, Krittidech said.

Local people praised Pornnipa for fighting back, although they also noted that in her capacity as a village headwoman she had undergone some defence training that gave her the courage to do so.

Except the 5K, value of gold 100K and a mobile phone! :cheesy:

I guess we can skip the hospitals and CCTV. Just send out a nationwide question to all gold shops to report anybody trying to sell a 100K gold necklace. That will soon give results.

True.

I was referring to the getting shot.

I doubt these guys will try that again.

Why is it in nearly every crime a necklace of 100,000 baht is lost, stolen, mislaid or snatched?

Report didn’t say if they were masked or not, did she clock their faces.

Seems like they new she had a gun etc. I wonder if they live local to the area.

You don't realize yet this is the same necklace ?

It got bad spirit in it and pass from people to people bringing again and again drama... There will be soon a TV lakorn  and some reality show about it !    ;)

Unlikely that any 'Fence' dealer would turn down giving two toerags about 5k for something stolen !

Aggravated Burglary with actual assault happens at 4am, let's say half an hour for the Moronic Idiots to fumble around and get themselves shot and the Police don't turn up until 7 am !!    No wonder people sleep with a gun under their pillow.

I suspect these guys knew who she was Glad I am not married to her Can you imagine?

Out on the town with a few friends Get home and BANG

Yes, I totally agree with you. In fact a couple of simple things can be done to find them but the BIB is not doing any of these, see the problem there. Not even if you tell them it is probably the most efficient way to find them. They don't listen to anybody. They so full of air. If you only prick them with a pin you could the hear the air rushing out making a "shissssing " noise. The same with uniform services in Indonesia, Brunei, Cambodia and Laos. They are all belong to the same species. Oh yes, I have been to couple of these countries and I know them well.

When I was in the Philippines my friends and I visited a filthy rich businessman(ethnic chinese) who had a panic room built in his bed room. If intruder got into the house compound it triggers the quiet alarm in the bedroom, he wakes up & goes into the panic room at once. In his panic room he has a TV monitor and could see everywhere. You cannot break down the door of panic room because it is an iron door like in a submarine, you need oxy-acetylene tank and blow torch  to burn off the hinge then the door will come off. There is enough food & water supplies to last for 2 weeks in case there is a standoff with the police.

The local philippines gangster target the chinese businessmen all the times. They don't have a carefree life. The children goes to school in bullet proof car with body guards. What a life !

She should have built a panic room because it will save her life.

That´s nice of you, to tell me that you visited a couple of countries. Know I really know you are talking out of experience. Myself, I have it easier to count the countries in Asia that I haven´t visited.
That goes for Europe and South America too. Cheers!

There are farang style houses outside of Isaan.

Ang Thong, as you probably know, is just north of Ayuttaya.
