mauGR1
I have a lot of respect for monks, and once i met an enlightened one, i think, but lately, they are getting a bad press. And for good reason, everybody expects a monk to behave well. It seems there are some bad people around, looking like monks, but they are just dressed like monks. I am not surprised, similar things happen in all countries, it seems that organised religions are losing the grip. I think we are going to see interesting times ahead, the people need to believe in something, and something will fill the void left by religions. Monks are supposed to live by a moral code. Once they violate that code by getting drunk (as these men appear to be), gambling, engaging in sex (in which many of them seem to prefer young boys), or trying to physically assault someone by hitting them, as in this case, they have totally violated that moral code and are no longer "monks", but merely a man in a orange robe, and should be treated as such. Bashing Thai monks is not bashing Thais. Bashing Thai budhism is not bashing budhism. The Khaek comment was not bashing Indians, but quite the opposite. tgeezer
The monkhood would be a very lean organisation if its membership was retricted to those men who adhere strictly to the principles of Buddhism, I think.
