IMG Insurance

Featured Replies

Has anyone else used IMG insurance? My friend is currently in Thailand with me and has been volunteering at a school (she is a teacher). She recently got IMG insurance and 2 days later got this crazy fever. She went to the dr and they thought to check for dengue fever, as apparently it has been going around. It turned out she did have it and was really sick (she says she didn't feel very sick but she was super hot and pale). She paid for the insurance on the 6th, coverage started on the 7th and she got sick on the 8th... They have been ignoring the hospitals request for response to coverage having sent only one email the first day stating they wouldn't guarantee coverage.

So, in reality, if you get insurance with IMG you can't get sick 2 days later or they won't cover you?! It's insane. The hospital said they have had trouble with this company before as they try not to pay out and make people go back to their country and beg for the money back after treatment instead.

Has anyone else had trouble with them? The hospital is holding my friend's passport at ransom until the insurance pays. She has been really sick and alone on Koh Samui for days and you would think that having insurance would be able to ease her mind. IMG is disgusting for doing this. I was with my friend when she purchased it because my insurance was up and I was re-newing that day. I was the one who convinced her to get it, just in case... I feel terrible about this.

Any advice would be appreciated.
