A German man was found dead inside his hotel room in Walking Street Pattaya on Monday.

Rescue workers and police discovered the body of Hans-Dieter Brien,57, lying face down on his bed in room 204 of La Fountaine Hotel.

Police said there were no signs of forced entry or a disturbance in the room and are working on the assumption Mr Brien died of natural causes.

Mr Brien’s body has been sent for autopsy to establish an official cause of death.

The German embassy has been informed.

If there are no signs of foul play why would anyone assume anything else than natural death?

Oh wait, this is the Thai Sceptic forum

Stop. No signs of forced entry or a disturbance, what that could be? A ladyboy visible?

Working on the assumption that will be the easiest. The guy was too young to die a natural death. I'm afraid that we'll never know who's helped him a bit. RIP, Herr Brien.

It is sad and disturbing to see a person, still young, end up getting carried away in a cloth bag as seen on the picture....

To the usual Pattaya ranting lawyers it may seem normal, but one cannot ignore that these sudden unexplained casualties, seem to have a higher ratio in Sin City then elsewhere in Thailand...

RIP poor chap and to his family back home !

Wait. There's a lot wrong with the information. The guy was born on 27th of March 1950 and that makes him ten years older, or 67 years old.

The room seems to look a bit messy, could that be from a little fight? It seems that a woman knew the guy and posted this: *( Sorry for the bad Google translation:

P.S. The women who's got the photos on her FB page seems to work with the cops,, as a sort of photographer. That's where she's got all the photos from.

Yep every farang here dies of natural causes, but they never send the body home for a proper team of investigators to examine, I wonder why.

Note to self: if you don't want to be found dead, stay out of Pattaya hotel rooms.

(I wonder if someone is making fast work out of that passport picture...)

Maybe because there is nowhere to send it and nobody pays for it.

Ever thought about that, and how you know with certainty that NEVER a body is sent home?

Well, I'm going to make the assumption that a sixty-seven year old male renting a room in Walking street, is likely to engage in the entertainment offered by that location. Girls, ladyboys, drugs and drink  - take your choice. Nevertheless,  I hope he enjoyed his last night in Thailand. RIP.

Pattaya (because of its very high, aged, foreigner population) is the equivalent of the elephants graveyard for elderly (he was 67) western males in Thailand. It also has more than it's fair share of alcoholic/unhealthy/"troubled", etc foreigners.

Elephants do not die because they go there.

They go there because, one way or another, it's "time".

One thing that Pattaya isn't, is a place of "mystery".

Stupid comment. Plenty of people die long before retirement age. I have a friend whose wife died in her 30s.

Death by Viagra  ?

Wouldn't that nice? Disappointing none reported, eh. However, lack of any evidence whatsoever by no means deters our posters from imagining it there and having the same discussion w/ the usual expert opinions. Hee hee!

The opinions may be valid from long expiriance in Pattaya. I first visited Thailand in April 2000  and not long after that saw a sign posted in a hotel in German and English. "To our German compatriots, please stop over imbibing beer along with Viagra and (Their post) 17 yo Thai girls." We are losing about 2  persons a week>"

When so many people come to Thailand in their later life and start living as if they were 21 again it's bound to have consequences. If you want to bow out in style, living life to the full, then good for you. Much better than being bored and miserable back home, in my opinion.

Why was he too young to die a natural death?

My oldest brother died at 10 months old.

My body will be taken to the local wat and I will be cremated.

My ashes and my spirit will remain in Thailand where I have been happiest.

Expense.  If the family want the body they will have to pay the cost.

Probably a higher ratio of depressed alcoholics in Pattaya than elsewhere in Thailand.

Another mysterious death written off as "natural causes" by Thai authorities ... what a sorry way to go. RIP.

You missed the part where the body was sent for autopsy obviously.

Funnily enough ( please excuse any misconception of disrespect) I find this article unusually well reported

the German embassy has been informed and can (perhaps) inform the family prior to a news broadcast

the man is identified

the hotel is identified

the body is being sent for autopsy to establish cause of death, regardless of any assumptions

this is the way it should be.... this is the way it’s done “in the western world”

Exactly. To ascribe the cause of death to Viagra is perfectly valid on the forum even though no Viagra is found! And it really, really wasn't found in this case, 'cause if so they'd make a point of it. Wonderful click bait. Might even be the main focus, forget about the deceased: Viagra found next to dead Frenchman. Yee haw!

of course! Sudden nocturnal exercise and the sheer amount of watering holes take their due, this assisted by "the highest quality safe-to-take lovesome drugs of Dr Singh Ratchaprayaram owning modern pharma production facilities (ISO approved) all over India"
