Nigerians in Thailand: Two Sides to Every Story

http://www.thailawforum.com/Nigerians-In-Thailand.html

Apparently some of the Nigerians in BKK are themselves trafficked or deceived by agents.  Nearly 3 Billion dollars a year in trade between the two countries with Nigeria being the worlds largest rice importer.  Nigerians are only nation  number 7 in the top ten list of number of prisoners in Thai prisons. (2012).

Sometime around 2010-2012, Thailand and Nigeria inked a very large trade deal...rice for petroleum mostly but part of the deal was that Nigeria had to repatriate  300+ convicted Nigerians from Thai prisons.  As I recall, they chartered an old 747-200 cargo jet and packed them out.

Their life in Thai prisons was probably better than what awaited them back home.

In Dubai they will harass you to the limit when on transit you have alcohol....but coke apparently get's through....

Sorry Mr. Black African man.  You do stand out in Thailand and you are at a greater risk of being searched than many other travelers.   I assume it was very tempting to try and bring the drugs in and make money.  1,130 grams or just over I Kg.  Two pounds of cocaine is a lot I think.

That would help explain their Thai prison population today as being less than the most numerous.

rac·ism
ˈrāˌsizəm/
noun
  1. prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against someone of a different race based on the belief that one's own race is superior.
    "a program to combat racism"
synonyms: racial discrimination, racialism, racial prejudice, xenophobia, chauvinism, bigotry, casteism
"Aborigines are the main victims of racism in Australia"
    • the belief that all members of each race possess characteristics or abilities specific to that race, especially so as to distinguish it as inferior or superior to another race or races.
      noun: racism
      "theories of racism"

Then profiling does not fit this definition because it's not done based "on the belief that one's own race is superior".  It is done rather based on evidence that those fitting a particular physical description or of a particular nationality are statistically more likely to be violating particular laws, based on a history of others fitting a similar description or of the same particular nationality, actually found to have been violating those same laws.   The belief that one's own race is superior is a completely subjective thing.  The determination that those of a particular physical description or nationality are statistically more likely to be violating a law based on historical record is entirely objective.   Wingnuts would have us believe that profiling is a reactive thing; it is in fact predictive.

Wingnuts have hijacked the term "racist" to further their agendas with simple-minded, unquestioning listeners, not to correct any actual injustice.  It's an emotion-getter.   No different from 19th century medicine shows.  Consequently, the vast majority of the public has become totally desensitized to it.   Wingnuts do no service to the group(s) they actually pretend to be advocating for by continually employing this cheap trick.

Pick your favorite:

1. Ideological extremist from either side of the political spectrum who unquestioningly repeats any and all propaganda and/or conspiracy theories propagated by their side of the political spectrum, no matter how unlikely.

2. An eccentric driven by religious fervor to take on unusual or irrational social or political opinions without care that other members of society consider them off balance. The extremism of these people's faith is proof to them that they are right.

3. A person who was unfortunate in the allotment of his or her genetics, causing his or her ears to be abnormally large and protruding. Originating in Australia where it is rarely used derogatively it became an insult when the word migrated to America

4. An aficionado of the Detroit Red Wings.

5. A fan of the political drama television programme The West Wing

6. A piece of metal that can be easily turned with the fingers used to anchor screws into wood or other material

Profiling on the basis of colour is racism.
