cheeryble Posted December 31, 2017 Posted December 31, 2017 (edited) Hi i sold my collection of kelims and rugs when i left England long ago. I'd like to buy again.......I tend to favour Afghan or Turkish type natural colours and design over say silk Persian, but am open to anything. I also would consider quite worn rugs. I would like to buy not at retail but at wholesale, knockdown, or auction type prices.....so walking into a rug shop to start haggling is probably not for me. Any pointers where to look? Any auction houses with this type of thing (would travel to BKK) Anyone selling up? (also would be interested in old quality furniture like desks, chairs beds etc. and decorative artefacts) ps: does duty come into play with imported second hand (or new) rugs making it the wrong place to buy? Thanks! Edited December 31, 2017 by cheeryble
forrestbrandt Posted January 15, 2018 Posted January 15, 2018 Hi Cheeryble, I am in Chiang Mai. My parents here have a large selection of Afghan, Tibetan, and Pakistani rugs and carpets. Too many for their house actually. Some are quite antique and valuable and other are beautiful but not very expensive. If you are still looking for some carpets we would be happy to part with some for negotiable price. Please send me a message if yo are interested and I can give you more contact details best regards
triffid Posted January 15, 2018 Posted January 15, 2018 Since you mention furniture, I have four pieces of old Burmese colonial (teak) furniture which I bought many years ago from de Siam (the best shop by far for this kind of thing). I'm leaving Chiangmai so yes, I'm selling up. However de Siam have offered to take back my pieces on consignment, so while I'd accept prices below what they're charging for similar things I'm not too desperate to sell at any price. If you're interested pm me and I'll give you details and photos.

simoh1490 Posted January 16, 2018 Posted January 16, 2018 There's a shop just the other side of the superhighway, on the right when heading out of Chiang Mai, over the Narawat Bridge, past the railway station, over the super highway and then up a ways on the right - Indian (ish) run.
