A German tourist’s body with a leather belt tight around his neck and burn marks on his legs was found on Friday morning in a public park in Pattaya City, Chon Buri's Bang Lamung district, and police are investigating whether suicide or murder is the cause.

Following a 10am report of the discovery of a dead body in Khao Phra Yai public park, the scene was inspected by the Provincial Police Region 2 chief's two deputies, Pol Maj-General Chettha Komonwattana and Pol Maj-General Pol Ampol Buarapporn, along with police officers and the Bang Lamung Hospital medical examiner.

The body was identified as German tourist Frank Glas Fischer, 56, whose bag of clothes and a leather wallet were found on a staircase 200 metres away.

Police said the body showed no sign of struggle. Police also found two already-opened bottles of methyl alcohol for industrial use and some medicines at the scene.

Chettha said the tourist had entered Thailand on December 23. They said the investigation would probe where and with whom he stayed and whether the burn marks were self-inflicted or done by another person. They will also check the park's CCTV footage for clues.

Leather belt tight around his neck and burn marks on the body and suicide is already being mentioned as one of the possibilities... the mind boggles ! RIP to the poor chap.

He was a foreigner, so of course it was suicide.  What else could it possibly be?

The most ludicrous statement by whoever said "could be suicide "

The information given here indicated a MURDER BY LOCALS?

Sound very ridiculous! A tourist fly all the way to Thailand just because he wanted to commit suicide! What happen to his cash money? How did he tighten his own belt around his own neck? How his belonging walk 200 meter away from him? and many many.............???

i actually think some do come to thailand and especially pattaya for one last blow out of fun before committing suicide. i have to say though, this does not look like suicide at all

"Thai people not do".

only 2 scenarios.

Suicide by hauling as hard as you can on your own belt round the neck whilst trying to set yourself alight with the methyl alcohol you bought coming through Duty Free.

or all the hallmarks of Burmese workers who randomly take out tourists.

Obvious.

The reality is this person was strangled and robbed, with a poor attempt at setting fire to the corpse was then made and the wallet dumped after removing the cash.

You might google Sandra Bland or Arron Hernandez and hear of claims of suicide by hanging from a very low level.

I followed up on the Sandra Bland case and suspect a homicide but no matter what she was the victim of an injustice.

They are hard to imagime.

May he R.I.P.!

Let me guess, the wallet was empty, but with a belt around his neck they'll call it a suicide. Only in Thailand!

Thank god they can blame others every time: 'falang' or the Burmese... :passifier:

While strangling himself to death with one hand, he also burnt his various body parts with some fire in his other hand. Very much possible.

He was 39 years old, not 56. Google his name and a photo of his passport shows up (at least on Thai language pages on Facebook), and I've also seen the passport first hand. Was on the scene when two other guys found him dead. The passport was by the bag in the stairs.

Why locals? Isn't this the same area the Aussie Biker gang used to hide their victims?

RIP....sure he did not jump from a nearby tree? ??

It's only suicide if there no money in it for someone, or if it's not a high-so or high profile case ! About 95% then.

He was suicided.
RIP

Also opened bottles of methyl alcohol, just 50ml is a lethal dose.  Looks like suicide is a distinct possibility, the burns could be from a previous failed attempt.

I am not surprised the police are now concluding the case already before even starting the investigation.

It could be Burmese at work, or he was forced to commit suicide by a jealous BF.

Most likely of course is good old suicide with no struggle just burns and a tight belt self inflicted case closed move on.

No, CSI: TVF has concluded the case and also concluded that the police have concluded the case in the way CSI: TVF had concluded they would.

But that's TVF. In reality the police haven't concluded anything yet.

The key to this is ,was the wallet full or empty?? if empty then a murder is highly likely. Police have not said.

Compression of the carotids is a method of suicide albeit very unusual. It is apparently less painful than strangulation. (hanging)

Having read the OP I don't see where the police have concluded it was suicide.

My questions to the guy there when the body was found - was there money in the wallet? Were the belongings placed (stored) on the stairs or ransacked and thrown?

Were the burns on the body recent, post mortem or from an earlier incident?

Arm-chair sleuths aplenty....:post-4641-1156693976:

Does sound a bit silly, but to address a couple of points.

judging by the number of suicides of foreigners reported here in Thailand maybe @Happy enough is right about people wanting a blow out before departing this life.

As for strangulation by belt, I would suggest it is all about the buckle. I know the OP states that the material was leather and it was tied around his neck but that seems very specific information as early as this to be released. If the belt had a buckle similar to the picture below, once that is tightened and clamped in place, it will not slip and could easily lead to unconsciousness if not released. I use these kind of tactical belts a lot (granted, not for suicide though............ ) and have never had one loosen on me,

I suggest you offer yourself to the RTP as the new lead Investigator.  Yo de man!!  The one with all the answers, who relies on press reports and creates a conclusive finding.  Well done.

somethings not right here .....  :shock1:

dear god , have these police lost their minds or are they covering up their own ineptness with this fantastically unbelievably poor excuse of a motive ? it is better to say "i do not know "  then pulling a suicide lie outta your keester  . do  the coppers here have no shame ?
