The Thai army captain charged with the murder of a north eastern education and religious services director was denied bail by the Sisaket court on Friday.

The family of Juthaporn Un-orn, 37, who was found in a forest murdered last year said that they are confident that justice will prevail, reported Daily News.

Suphachai Phaso - known as Captain Neng in the Thai media - is charged with abduction and murder. He is also charged with concealing, damaging and moving a corpse.

He was originally held after a car belonging to the victim was impounded and he was charged with falsifying documents.

The case was widely followed in the Thai media later last year after Juthaporn - known as Director Oi - went missing under suspicious circumstances. Suspicion quickly fell on the army captain but nothing concrete could be done until the body was later found.

Initially the mother and father and relatives were concerned that a military man might get off but yesterday they told the media they were happy with the case and believed justice would prevail for Juthaporn.

Three other defendants in the case were given bail. They are believed to be involved in the sale of the victim's car and face charges of falsifying documents.

Defendant number 2 - who was not named - was bailed on 90,000 baht surety and defendants numbers 3 and 4 on 150,000 land ownership notes.

The court is due to sit again on Monday.

The family of the victim seem unusually optimistic about the course of justice here for an Army officer.

I'm not sure past events and cases would warrant such optimism. But I'm always willing to be surprised to the good -- though it rarely seems to happen here.

I'm assuming that the suspect/accused is one of the army officers in the photo. If true, then I really think it is not appropriate for him to be proudly wearing his military officers uniform when accused of such a serious crime due to it degrading the main symbol of the military (the uniform) in the media/public eye. What should happen once accused of a crime, a military/police or government officer should be suspended straight away (not this inactive post BS), forbidden from wearing any symbols of office like uniform etc., the surrender of any firearms and only allowed to appear in civilian clothes until the trial has concluded and guilt is established or they are acquitted, as that in Thai culture would already be serious humiliation and loss of face (i.e. a good deterrent on it's own) . If acquitted, then all regalia and tools of office are returned and he/she is compensated for their time out of office (i.e. back pay etc.) with record expunged.

Quite frankly, I think it is ludicrous that some army captain is allowed to strut around in his parade uniform like a peacock at a police station after being snagged for such a serious crime. Same thing happened with that human slavery general in the south who was caught red handed and he appeared in his general's uniform for a while....very damaging image imo. The army should consider how this impacts their image and how it is projected to the public.

I know some will say their image is pretty bad, true...but if they want to improve it then this is something that might help.
