How good is the festival now compared with 10 - 15 years or so ago when sponsored by Singha / Heinekin ???   I am not a drinking man but the sponsorship obviously helped.

The range of music was good, it really was on the beach ( make space for the tide if you can ), it went on to well after midnight.

Last time I went you could hire a comfortable "beer" sponsored chair or just sit on the sand with the young and old.

Yes, the toilets could have been improved upon, yes it occasionally rained but it was a great family atmosphere.

The videos of the 2017 event make it look like a well organised 'play in the car park', rather than a "real" festival as you get in Europe.

Is Hua Hin again worth the journey ?

My first festival ( I was 15 ) was the Richmond Jazz & Blues Festival in 1961 - see link below.     There had been a small festival the year before, a forerunner of Richmond, four hours if I remember in a park on a summers afternoon.    It was full and no one wanted to leave.     The early years were pure top class bands.  By 1965 performers such as Eric Burdon, Stevie Winwood, Long John Baldry, Julie Driscoll, Rod Stewart, The Who as well as top UK and international Jazz bands.  No camping out then, doors open at 10am close well before midnight !     Then came The Isle of Wight , the rest is history.

Which beach was it on? Last time I went to H H the high tide was within a few feet of the sea wall in front of the Hilton. The sunbeds were in the water.

I remember the beach in front of the palace is wider.

Hua Hin Beach near Centara Hotel.

Where the sea is will depend on season of year, never had a real problem, people just snuggled up closer.
