Activist fails to call time on Prawit

Pro-democracy activist Ekachai Hongkangwan on Tuesday made another attempt to hand his watch to Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan at Government House – and failed.

It was his third try to hand his decade-old Seiko watch to the junta’s second in command, who allegedly has a collection of extravagant and expensive watches.

Ekachai didn’t get to approach Prawit, but two police officers received it on behalf of the Deputy PM.

Prawit has been the subject of investigation for allegedly concealing his wealth, including a series of watches with multi-million-baht pricetags. This is despite his failure to declare any assets worth more than Bt200,000 to the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NAAC).

Prawit has stood firm and has reportedly sent a letter of clarification to the NACC, but neither party has disclosed his explanation to the public

On Tuesday, Ekachai said wished to hand the watch to Prawit as a symbolic protest.

“Any type of clock can tell the time – and the junta’s time is now up,” the activist said. “They said they would stay here for a short period of time, but even if there is an election this year there is no certainty [that they will go].”

The new generation of politicians wished by the PM?

It is actually a smart move.. Because if he doesn't accept that watch how can he explain that he accepted the other watches.

Blimey a person with the strength of their convictions to go up against the elite you don't see that very often in LoS, shocked and pleasantly surprised though there will probably be one of the cheerleaders along shortly to put us right....

Well done, really ballsy..

Let's hope he won't have to go to AA session and he can keep the pressure on them

The battle of the 'little people' vs 'the elite.'  The characters may change over time, the the story line stay pretty much the same.

Ok he loaned them  Loan or accept it dont matter because he was distorting the truth a bit  My guess would be he bought those watches when he went on his overseas junkets I think the whole moral to this story is when you have a 3 rd world country Like Thailand where there is an enormous amount of poverty and low wages and your leaders  pose for pictures wearing millions and millions of baht worth of jewelry  does not send out a good signal to the people does it? It is saying to the population " She be right mate you keep struggling we are just doing fine"

A Seiko for the Fossil in the Orient.

Sir i take  on board what you just said about the watches being loaned and not accepted You are absolutely right what you said matey  But dont you think your talents as a writer in this forum would be better put to use  writing about what you think about this topic and have some input and put forward some ideas  instead of knit picking  other people' mistakes what they wrote? Then people might take notice of what you are writing Its a forum where people come to express there ideas and thoughts not some place where you can come to and try and make fools of everybody Its not a perfect world and nobody is perfect ( Maybe you think different and you think you are) Ok matey:guitar:
