Have a small area under an awning and below a window where very little grows or survives.

LOGG.thumb.jpg.bdc414dc7697606c156361467e2c3d1a.jpgI have a few logs from a couple of trees that were cut down and wondered if there was some way to create a "log garden"

Any ideas?

Thanks

Log garden?  That's a creative name for a pile of firewood.

I assume that "under an awning" means not much sunlight. So a green fingernail or thumb, even if you had one, would not be of much use.  Although there are plants which can grow in shade if you inquire at a local nursery.

What about a "water feature", a pond or fountain?  We have a simple 2 tier fountain with a recirculating pump in a shaded corner of our yard and we really enjoy the sight and sounds of the water and colorful fish my wife added to the lower fountain pool.  When I had a landscape construction business I built a number of custom ponds with waterfalls for customers. The style and size will depend on your budget and access to a local shop to buy a ready made fountain, or contractor to have a custom water pond constructed.

Further: be advised that  "very little grows or survives" may have a lot to do with soil quality.  From the photos, there is some grass growing there, so it must get a little sun.  If you decide to plant some ferns or other shade tolerant plants around your new fountain (or "log garden"), first improve the soil with a generous amount of compost.  Soil and water management are the first and most important aspects of plant health care.

Thanks.

I simply wondered if I could do anything similar to a rock garden with the pile of logs. Probably simpler to "compost up" and lay turf.

The house is up for sale so prefer to keep expenses down but at least make it look presentable. 1503758.GIF

The termites will love it,and when they finish the logs they will

make their way into the house and eat all your furniture .
