That's what happens when you don't have no smoking signs in Chinese.

It's what happens when MONEY is number one and you have a marine authority more interested in abusing tourists on a beach than enforcing any safety standards - if they actually existed

Everyone is focused on road safety, the marine safety record is probably just as bad, the whole country is a death trap because safety costs money and the greedy (deleted) don't want to spend it.

There is some truth to that but thailand is a developing country. As soon as one problem surfaces every body says but what about the roads and what about Helmuts and what about about blah blah

Its not probable that throwing money at the hundreds of problems will turn it 1st world in a few years.

Your analysis of the first accident is not correct, and for the third one we really don't know what happened, so your analysis there is at best premature.

I doubt we will ever really know what truly happened is these cases, but one thing is for sure, the tourists are DEAD, and that is not an incorrect analysis.

So, where does the fault lay, with nature, the captain, the dive instructors, the marine maintenance crews - who, or what?  It can't always be down to "bad luck."

Anyway, for the survivors, I expect to see yet another presentation of a fruit basket, at their hospital bedside, for a photo shoot, to make amends.

how long do they need ?

how many dead bodies ?

sorry but I don't agree with you, they have had plenty of time, the only area were they have had to conform to strict safety standards is in the air and that is because they must meet international standards otherwise they are grounded and tourism dies

Yes well buying a fleet of multi billion baht 777"s means any airline has to abide by international standards. Surely you didn't expect them to stop training pilots and servicing? I find the rusty boat vs state of the art Boeing a bit odd

The whole of 3rd world South east Asia are stuck in rotting rusty boats. I'm guessing at least 10 to 20 years before we have a modern fleet that abide by all inspections and safety rules . It's 3rd world dude.. Just the way it is, you can't just flick a switch.. It's a Slooooow process

BANGKOK (Reuters) - A tourist speedboat carrying 31 passengers exploded in front of Phi Phi Le island in the southern Thailand province of Krabi on Sunday, injuring 16, mostly tourists from China, the Phi Phi police told Reuters.

The speedboat, named “King Poseidon”, was ferrying 27 Chinese tourists from the nearby resort island of Phuket to Phi Phi before its engine caught fire and exploded injuring 14 tourists and two crew members, the police said, adding that the authority is still investigating the cause of the explosion.

Out of the 16 injured, six are in a severe condition, Phi Phi hospital staff told Reuters, adding that seven people have been sent to hospitals in Phuket for further treatment and nine have been discharged.

Beach resorts and islands in southern Thailand are major tourist attractions, particularly during the high season from November to March.

Tourism accounts for around 12 percent of Southeast Asia’s second-biggest economy and is one of its fastest growing sectors.

The Thai Ministry of Tourism and Sports expects the country to welcome 37 to 38 million tourists in 2018, up from around 35 million visitors last year, 10 million of which were tourists from China.

One tourist was killed and 11 other tourists of both Thai and Chinese nationalities were injured, four of them in serious condition, when a speed boat in which they were travelling caught fire after the explosion of its engine in the Andaman Sea near Phi-Phi Islands, Krabi province Sunday afternoon.

The speed boat, named King Poseidon 959, was on its way to Phi-Phi Islands with five Thai passengers and 26 Chinese passengers, including three children when its engine exploded reportedly after fuel was leaked from the fuel tank to the engine as the boat was nearing Viking Cave in the sea.

The fire quickly spread, prompting all the passengers to scramble for swimming vests and then jumping into the sea.

If you look at any announcement made by TAT they always equate tourist numbers with making money. So if the ministry is doing that the operators will do the same. The Tourists that got burned alive in a minivan last year nothing has bee done apart for the initial regulation change and crackdown etc.I got a private minivan to Jomtien from Bangkok 2 weeks ago and there were no seatbelts in it. Unless there is a change at the top regarding tourism nothing will change

It was half empty

Yeah I know what you mean I went to that revolving restaurant in Pattaya Tower last week when my kids came over for Christmas. Going out we got on in the lift at floor 52 it went up to 53 and about 50 Chinese tourists crammed in and the alarm went off, so I went berserk at them "Get Out the <deleted> Lift" and they did

Wonder if we will hear from the anti-nanny state crowd about this? "We came here to get away from needless government regulations and nosy inspectors telling hard working freedom loving boat operators how to do their jobs! We can trust them to keep boats in tip top shape as they invested their hard earned money buying them. Make Thailand Greater Again!"

Due to the fact there are millions of vehicles on the roads and the internet together with all the other high tech gadgets are available Thais already firmly believe they live in a developed country. Such a pity that education standards do not live up to this belief.
