BANGKOK, 19th January 2018 (NNT) – The Energy Minister, Siri Jirapongphan, said the government has no plans to weaken the roles of PTT and the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT), both of which positioned to help enhance national energy security.

Mr. Siri has refused circulating rumours on social media claiming the government plans to reduce the roles of both energy giants

He said both companies are considered important state enterprises for national energy security, and that the government continues to appoint duties to both companies to help preserve and promote energy security of the country.

Infrastructure projects related to energy security, such as the gas tunnel project, electricity cables, and key power plants, will remain under the management of the two organizations.

The Energy Minister added that it is within the discretion of both companies' executives to make internal changes to best support their operations.

These State enterprises are positioned to comply with the junta's 20-year national strategy and reform plan that is mandated by the 2017 Constitutions. As such no succeeding government can do anything different without violating the Constitution.

Change the constitution then, it wouldn't be the first time that has happened
