Not only legal but made compulsory especially for the grumpy old farts on TVF

  • Spoke with a Thai cop who said he wishes weed was legal. He has NO problems from folks smoking pot, it's the yaba/meth people who make his life miserable.

Absolutely it should!   There are several serious issues with the (mis) use and prevalence of weed, but there is one overwhelming issue to me; the criminal aspect.   I don't smoke

Until Thais can learn to drive responsibly with Alcohol still on sale, then its a no from me. I might give medical cases a vote but only if they were banned from driving - bans that most Thais seem to ignore anyway.

I don't smoke weed, but I do know of many who do, some regularly and some occasional. It is the penalties that concern me; should anyone get caught with it, then it is a scar on their permanent record affecting travel, employment, etc for life. And it is stupid to have that great affect on someone's life for something so small; it is not like a bank robbery or murder or some kind of serious crime that affects others.

Weed has been with us for generations, literally. I don't advocate its use, but I do advocate its decriminalization. Giving someone a criminal record for that is just stupid.

Imagine someone (stupidly) takes a toke while on holiday, then is arrested and prosecuted. Should that stupidity follow them forever?

In my books, no. If you genuinely believe that there should be punishment, call it a 500 Baht fine with no record. Period

I don't smoke it, never liked it but I think they should make it legal and give it to prison inmates for free.

Yes like most of the world, should be in oil and edibles for those who do not smoke. I have smoked it and hashish for 50 years now.

Considering the Thai government's knickers are in such a twist concerning opioids as a palliative care treatment (they'd much prefer you die in agony than to make morphine widely available to terminal patients), then perhaps they can at least get off their moral high-horses and look at the hard science regarding the synergistic effect of cannabis on opioid effectiveness.

it would result in more "quality tourist" lol

So what do you do with the 10 to 15% who have a terrible psychosis when they use it then.

We have never looked after the alcoholics very well, what of those that this drug really stuffs up, I speak of this from a personal viewpoint with a daughter who is a living nightmare when she can get the stuff.

tell them not to use it would be the simple solution.

I would use the same advice if she has adverse reaction to food.

Should be legal and available at a pharmacy without any type of prescription.  I would also decriminalize other drugs. However, I would start a very serious  campaign from grade 1 in school through adulthood explaining that the use of drugs could be hazardous to one's health just as alcohol can in extreme.  Addicts should be treated not jailed. All the money saved on jailing people can be put to treatment for the addicted.

In theory yes, but being pragmatic, no.  Don't want having to deal with the inevitable second-hand smoke, and we all know how considerate and self-justifying addicts are.  In most condos you would be certain to stink up the corridors and neighboring apartments.  Same in public areas where smoking is allowed.  At least by keeping it illegal but not actively prosecuting it (most Western countries), you force dope heads to do it far out of other people's range.

As always...it’s hysterical to read the comments.  Some fascinating minds opining on this forum.

If alcohol is legal, pot should be legal.  No doubt in my mind roads would be safer.  Quality of tourism wouldn’t change and there would be additional government revenue from taxation.  It may lessen the meth/opioid epidemic.  The benefits would far outweigh any negatives.

It should be treated exactly the same as the law provides for alcohol consumption.

Too big a money earner for the cops nabbing foreigners. They would hate the loss of income. Personally I am in favour of it being de-criminalised- there are far worse substances out there.

Marijuana is now a multi billion dollar industry in the United States as well as many other countries in Europe. Just for that fact alone, Marijuana should be on the fast track for legalization here.

The benefits across the board(medical, recreational, economical, social and financial ) have proven to outweigh the adversities.

Logically, Ganja (local term for Marijuana) should be a next step for Thailand. But sadly, logic is a word which is lost on the Thai.

Many years ago Thailand was home to some of the best weed in the world (Thai-Stick & Buddha Weed ). Now Thailand is relegated, mostly, to some of the crappiest weed on the planet. With little or no benefit for the consumer.

Also Marijuana would probably help curb the Ya-Ba consumption here.

Anyway for this reader, I believe, everything considered, Pot is a win-win situation for the country of Thailand,

Theres no correlation with cannabis use by drivers and more accidents.

Many studies have have shown that there's a reverse correlation.

Terrible psychosis!!  10-15%!!  No way. I am sorry if your daughter is having troubles but it could be much more than pot that is doing that.  If true why would someone want to continue? Even google has no such figures.

No problem with recreational use except I have many friends that are long term users and each one is paranoid in some way. Fortunately not dangerous but a pain in the A when they carry on. Much the same with alcoholics and drunks and I have to put up with them too, as they with I when drinking too much.

I need medical marijuana (cannabis oil) for treating my cancer. Personally, I would legalize it completely. The only downside (?) in using it is it sends me to sleep !! Those who drive while under the influence should be punished.

Oh yeah why didnt I think of that and why dont they do that with the alcoholics as well.

They should start by legalising CBD (Cannabidiol, aka hemp oil), since there are no religious issues with it, or problems with people becoming intoxicated (or paranoid!). CBD is becoming a near-miracle treatment for seizures and other disorders. Thai farmers could grow it easily for domestic or export markets, making themselves and the country a lot of money. There is really no reason for it to need a prescription from a doctor, but they could start like that as a trial.

I don't know whether regular marijuana has any benefits that CBD doesn't. If it does, it should be available from hospitals. As for recreational use, I think there would be objections from the same orthodox Buddhists who object to alcohol and gambling.

How long does Marijuana exist ?

How long does mankind exist ?

MARIHUANA WAS PROBABLY EXISTING on this planet a long time BEFORE PEOPLE.

It has never been illegal until now ...
