Prayut denies role in tactic that may delay election

Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha on Monday dismissed a perception that the ruling junta was behind a move by lawmakers to stay enforcement of the MP election law for 90 days, which could further delay the election.

When asked to comment on the matter, Prayut said briefly: “There’s no order.”

He meant there had been no interference from his government or the National Council for Peace and Order, which he also heads.

The PM then walked away, avoiding more questions from reporters. He was presiding over a seminar for senior executives titled “One Country, One Team”, at the Impact Muang Thong Thani conference centre in Nonthaburi.

The National Legislative Assembly’s law-vetting committee has amended the MP election bill to extend its enforcement for 90 days, which could result in the next election – promised to happen in November – being delayed until February next year.

The proposed legislation, one of the four organic laws required by the Constitution before the next election, is pending its second and third readings in the NLA. It is expected to be forwarded to the legislative body by the end of this week.

If he is talking about the overall nature of his Government, then I agree with him. No order, no discipline, no focus or direction, no honesty, no clue whatsoever quite basically.

And given the delays and hurdles a return to a vote has experienced thus far, only a fool would believe that he is not in some way behind this further problem. After all, all he has to do is wave the magic wand 44 and the road is open again.

He has consistently lie. Denying for him has no meaning and most would not believe him. He has little credibility in whatever he say.

why delay he knows he is the winner winner chicken dinner !

Why NOT delay if the public will wear it? Even a rigged election will introduce an element of accountability, so why not hang on to good old 44 for as long as possible?

Either he hasn't a clue what it means or, more likely (his thoughts maybe), 'that's all you're getting. I'm getting to like the bolshy, arrogant and ignorant person I'm becoming . . . well, I've always been one, but now I've got an excuse for it, I'm dressed for it, even.'

(P1 thoughts, contd) So, there you have it. I've got you all thinking that the junta bovva boys have been up to their dirty tricks again. We haven't, as it happens, 'cos we'll make sure the election is on time . . . we have to, in view of the shit we'll get if our organics become orgasmic - LOL - and that's another easy PR session . . . just wait 'til I'm in the ruling chair for keeps . . . forever, maybe.'

That must be an old photo, expect in  the latest one, his nose

will have grown.

regards worgeordie

He's in charge of everything, so denying responsibility seems a stretch.

Originally he said there would be no coup, then after he staged a coup which he had been planning for a few years, he said the election would be held in late 2015. Then he came up with quite a few other delaying tactics.

At this point, he should stop all this roadmap and "special laws" nonsense and just pick a date say in 2020 and stick to it. If he can't figure out a way to rig win an election by then, just stage another coup.

2020 might be a little to close for him, maybe 2025 suits better

If a man with absolute power can not restore "order" in 3+ years, what makes him think he'll be able to do it at all? Perhaps it's time to accept that as flawed as Thailand's democracy may have been, a full-on dictatorship is even worse. Or perhaps restoring order has never been objective, but rather ensuring those currently in Gov can continue to maintain their behind the scenes power and the vast amount of wealth that comes with it.

Probably not what Prayut said in this photo and his two and half hours diatribe to the media and threatening to shut the country down.

" . . . and his two and half hours diatribe to the media . . . ", two and a quarter hours of which were spent telling the media that the coup had not been planned . . . lying then , lying now. Why is it I just can't believe in this guy?

With elections promised (????) for late 2018.... and five years as an outsider PM, I would think 2025 is highly likely

And then he can organize his own accredited political party, and run for election as an insider PM, staying in power indefinitely (or until the current crop of majors and colonels come of age and stage the next coup)

Do people realize that Thailand is chairing ASEAN in 2019 and under ASEAN organisational charter the chairing country cannot have a change of government, therefore if an election is postponed in November by only by 8 weeks would effectively mean that the earliest election could be January 2019......

Maybe I am reading you wrong, but don't you mean 'therefore if an election is postponed in November by only by 8 weeks would effectively mean that the earliest election could be January 2020.'?

That would be unacceptable. You can be sure the junta will be leaving every stone unturned in its efforts to ensure this would not happen...

I read that the chair alphabetical rotation is not seriously implemented. A country can opt out of the chair if they are not ready. Happen before in the case of Indonesia. ASEAN also consistently react to their partners especially USA and EU  in human right matters. That may influence the decision to award Thailand the chair.

Yeah, right. Pull the other one - it has bells.

Thank heavens. I am immensely reassured that you, as a seasoned observer of the Thai political scene think that is so. You see, in what I realise now to have been a fit of groundless irrational pessimism, I thought that maybe they were intending such a result!

I really must seek help for these moods - I believe Churchill called it "The Black Dog". Do you think any of the more enlightened amongst the junta appreciating TVF members could help me?

Do you think that P1 & P2 together with the rest of their clan, will happily forgo the opportunity to mince around on the (regional) international stage?

Tricky one... 'Now we can either hold the election or swan around (ASEAN) like Diana Ross for another year...'

Decisions, decisions, eh lads?
