The French government has provided $50.9 million in loans and grant aid to supply clean water and improved hygiene to the provinces, and to enhance capacity in the education sector. According to a statement from the Finance Ministry released on Wednesday, the French government granted the loans and aid through Agence Française de Développement.

Vongsey Vissoth, secretary of state at the ministry, held a meeting with Philippe Bauduin, the deputy chief executive officer of AFD, to talk about development cooperation on Tuesday, the statement said. The meeting discussed policy and strategy for cooperation in the coming years, and how the needs of Cambodia could be matched with financial support from France. Mr Bauduin committed to continued support for development in Cambodia.

“AFD plans to expand financial cooperation for development for Cambodia,” he said. After the meeting, Mr Vissoth signed a concessional loan agreement with AFD for clean water and hygiene projects in the provinces. The projects will be worth €40 million, or about $49.7 million.
