At this stage of this rather silly game, maintaining national security really means not arresting, trying, and convicting any members of the administration, or the army. That is all it means. Of course Prawit will stay on. He is above the law. Any and all laws. The army operates in a way that makes them a law unto themselves. That is why they are called a junta.

"Lt-Gen Kongcheep said the criticism and calls for his resignation constituted expression of opinions in a democratic society that all parties concerned should respect and listen with impartiality and should consider constructively. "

Seriously?

"... the spokesman said that tolerance and reasoning would be the two elements which would enable the people to overcome their difficulties. "

Is there a Thai word for hypocrisy?

Funny that on the same day we have a story about "tolerance and reasoning" we also have another about heavy handed censorship and press intimidation.   http://www.nationmultimedia.com/detail/politics/30338009

So spoke the two faced men in green, who are not exactly known for tolerance when in the boot is on the other foot.

"General Prawit (decides) to stay on to ensure national security"

What a supreme sacrifice by Khun Prawit, he should be hailed as a national hero. His name will be written in golden letters in the annals of world history.

...you sure mean "anals"?

He makes a lot of sense.

Since he has been in power there has been no fighting or rocket attacks or bombs aimed at children or red shirt road blocks.

He is doing a good job.

Hopefully he will stay around for years to come.

Do you buy your black shirts in bulk ?

there must be a course taught in the military academy about professional lying;

these corrupt , military generals use it so often and think we are all fools

If so, the lecturers need sacking. They are really, really bad at lying...

And, in the interests of national security, they don't call it 'lying', as if it was an ethically bad thing to do. To them and, they hope, the rest of the world, it's simply an alternative version of the truth. And, before they know it, there's absolutely nothing wrong with lying . . . it's normal.

So the Thai people called the bluff that he would resign if the Thai people wanted him too and now he says he's staying...probably hoping for gifts for his great sacrifice. Perhaps the Thais will buy him a really nice watch....so he can see it is time to go!
