The Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts yesterday received 119 artefacts from Japan to keep at the National Museum after the pieces were forfeited by a Japanese antiques collector.

Minister of Culture and Fine Arts Poeung Sakana said the artefacts were in the past used as decoration for a stupa during the post-Angkor period, and that collector Masatomo Hoshino had voluntarily forfeited them over to the state.

Ms Sakana said she was very thankful that Mr Hoshino had returned the artefacts to Cambodia for all future generations to enjoy.

“Giving those artefacts to Cambodia means happiness for Cambodia,” she said.
