I'm trying to finalize my vacation to Thailand, but won't know for sure when I can go until I find out about a possibly job offer. If I get the offer, I'll put my two weeks in at my current place of employment and then take vacation time.

Anyway, I'm looking at a week right now. I looked at Feb. 19-26 which was around $1600 for flight and hotel. I then looked at March 5-12. The price was over twice this amount. The week of March 12-19 it was back down to the $1600 level.

So, is there something going on that one week? :o

The airline's computers easily detect the increase in demand and automatically increase the prices. For travel that close there may not be many seats left for that partiuclar week so you get quoted rack rates, that is full fare.

If you are based in the US then the increase is maybe the result of a winter break in the schools. Maybe there is a large trade show in Las Vegas. There is also demand from Japan to the US at that time to visit spring training for baseball. I kid you not, this is big business. Since more US flights transit through Narita, Japanese travel impacts seat availability to Thailand.
