Thailand
We have a property that we rent out and are now getting many enquiries regarding renters wanting to use it for "homestay". The potential renters are invariably Chinese who have only tourist/education visas and obviously not complying with the law. However, here in Chiangmai there are already hundreds of mainly Chinese illegally operating homestay from their rented accommodation no reporting of guests etc. Is there a special dispensation for Chinese to carry out business in Thailand without meeting requirements that most would have to? Being a foreigner renting a property for what appears to be illegal homestay is obviously not wise. Maybe the authorities simply don't care or it's a growing bubble waiting to burst. Any experiences or thoughts?
worgeordie
In our Mooban there are 3 houses, that a Chinese "manager" rents out to Chinese visitors, really running them as mini hotels, and as you say, this seems to happening all over Chiang Mai,and i suspect the authorities, when they realize what is going on,will crack down,as they have no control over it,and it is illegal. regards worgeordie

Amazed that the authorities have not jumped on this one yet! Probably busy putting out the fires.
