And one more thing..... any suggestions on reasonably priced guesthouses / hotels in Ranong?

Not after luxury but don't want any hygiene problems either.

Cheers

I did the Ranong visa run just over a month ago. I stayed at a place called "Petch Ranong @Town ", which I booked via Agoda. It was less than 1,000 THB and it was great value for money. If you stay there then just around the corner you'll find some excellent restaurants. I would highly recommend 'The Farmhouse', which served up top quality Thai and Farang food. They also had live music.

  • You can do the crossing to Myanmar from Ranong to get a 30 day visa exempt entry. You can only do 2 land border visa exempt entries per calendar year now. There have been no reports of them

  • I have always gone to Ranong from Bangkok, but I have seen people coming from Samui to Ranong via Domsak. Assuming you are coming in on the ferry, I would guess there are connecting buses.

  • The border is open every day of the year.   It has been a few years since I was there. Ranong is not a bad town. To find the nightlife (which is mostly pretty well hidden) talk to the moto

Going again next week. Thinking of staying a night on the Kawthaung side as Ranong was a bit grim....

Anyone stay over the Burmese side? Much going on there?

Bump... anyone stayed on the Kawthaung side and can recommend hotels / drinking establishments...?
