Is there a map of speed cams in Thailand available? would be nice to have them in Sygic.

Sit down with a cup of coffee at 6.30 am and watch the Thai news on TV  , now with CCTV and dash cams , they show why the figure is so high , and the twisted lumps of steel that seconds before was a car/ pick-up, nearly all driving to fast.

As has been said before, police not doing their job ,and the me, me, me, attitude when driving.

Or drive around yourself for half a day , you will then see the problem yourself.

Went in a private hotel taxi today to Suvarnabhumi Airport. How I got there I will never know. The driver was a pleasant middle/late age man with 45 years taxi experience he tells me. After getting through the early traffic he spent most of his time weaving, tail-gating and lane changing at 120-130kph. Often he was looking at the road in front but for the rest of the time he was either watching his dashboard live TV show or groping around for a hidden packet of chips somewhere in the console. The real excitement came when he veered and braked hard part the way into the chicane just before the airport terminal. You know, the bit with the red tarmac for the idiot drivers who don't know it's raining. It was a joy to get out with relief that I was still alive. He would not have a clue how I felt; just a normal day for him.

So much for the road toll!

Just because they want to live in Thailand doesn't mean they can't have an opinion about the horrendous state of the roads. I hope the Thai authorities read some of the reactions on here so they realise how backward Thailand is when it comes to road safety.

 

I hope anyone who dies on the road rests in peace too.

Fire all the Police. Put Army in charge of civil policing. At least the Army seems to respond or respect Prayut as a leader. RTP surely doesn't.

I would say to anyone thinking of moving to Thailand, if they want to know the country they should

1 - drive around for half a day

2 - watch a day and evening of Thai tv

3 - read a few days of the English language press

 

I wonder how many would think that it wasn't such a good idea after all.

None of the PM's of the past 16 years has been able to get the police to do their jobs unless you count "he who can't be named" giving his cronies a licence to settle old scores and wipe out competition back in 2003. 

Shocking stat. I really cannot see how they can rectify this. It is too far gone and too ingrained in society. 

 

It will take a miracle worker to sort this out. 

Need to start with a mandatory reissue of new licenses after a 12 hour education and training program over a 3 year period...start with younger drivers first based on age criteria....

 

must have a much higher enforcement penalty program post training for those who cause fault on the roads....

 

enforcement then is the key but I don't think the current Thai gov is capable of an effective enforcement program

As one that has chosen to live here in LOS, I am sick of the death rate on the roads.

 

Over the years, there have been so many good Thai Citizens that I have met who have perished, or been severely maimed on the roads, along with an innumerable number of minor injuries

 

All so very sad for the people that are left behind, and have to pick up the pieces of their shattered lives when loved ones are killed, or they can no longer work to support their families.

 

 

Thailand’s Mickey Mouse law is a great contributor for 90% of the traffic deaths!

Difficult to believe those numbers, I drove all over thailand from hua hin to pattaya to chiang mai to chiang rai etc, the only accident i saw was a car in the ditch at chiang rai, due to a heavy downpour, and not much else,  those numbers are extraordinary, most certainly agree that the law has to change to curb those numbers.

I see the police out everyday stopping traffic, you must walk around with a blindfold on.

I also did a lot of highway and side roads this year without seeing a single car accident.
Trat to Cr and almost everywhere in between.
With supposedly 70% of fatalities involving 2and 3 wheelers it would seem a good target group. If a high % of those are youth licensed and unlicensed, then this doesn’t help the “ageing” thai population stats either

Ye Gods,nearly 400 in 12 days then add those who died later,800? I now no longer drive at night or in the late arvo,when they all go to get food,it's chaos.

Think you need spectacles to read, are those policemen you see on patrol? I bet they are at a roadblock...and there i've never seen them doing anything else than busy with motobikes or overloaded trucks.
