BANGKOK, 12 February 2018 (NNT) - The Prime Minister has made human rights protection a national agenda, in order to reduce human rights violations in the country.

Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha said the government aims to protect human rights in order to promote national peace and order, boost credibility in the international community, and create an environment that is suitable for a democratic system of international standards. He said the government has continued to educate the public of their rights and duties and has refrained from infringing upon people's rights.

He said the 2017 Constitution enshrines the protection of human dignity, rights and freedoms and individual equality. The government has made human rights a national agenda, in order for state agencies to collaborate in enforcing human rights protection according to international standards.

The premier has acknowledged that human rights violations do exist in the country and said the government has continued to crackdown on such violations by clearly identifying sectors that require enforcement and opening channels for people report suspicious activities to the authorities.

What about the right to vote free of intimidation, the right to a fair trial, the right to criticise certain persons and institutions.

More garbage out of his mouth. Does it ever step?

A minimal start would be for the Junta to comply with the UN Covenant on Civil and Political Rights to which Thailand has been  a signatory since 1996 and  which Thailand ratified in 1997.

I suspect that what he forgot to mention that these only apply to human rights with "Thai characteristics".... a pick n'mix "Thai niyom human rights" if you will. :whistling: Freedom of speech, rights to gather peacefully and electoral democracy will be three of the immediate exclusions, no doubt.

I see Uncle Too is brushing up on his comedy routine.

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!

This is the guy who went off in a huff earlier when being quizzed about the Shinawatra's photo in China.

"Prayut Chan-o-cha said the government aims to protect human rights" -  that's today's oxymoron.

Just about every day recently in the news there's been plenty of oxymoronic (is that a word?) content.

I'm just not sure if he's working himself up for a massive April fools joke - he's been doing splendidly so far this month.

Free and fair elections are clearly not part of the Thai version of human rights....

So what happened to the Pineapple King? The nice man from England who left Thailand in fear of his life would be able to add to this.

So no more child labor?    No more children in prison?   No children have to collect garbage to survive?

That will be the day......

That's all well and good for the rest of the world.....but here in Thailand, there is Thai style human rights.....which is all part of Thai style democracy

This REALLY has hit stratospheric levels of mental illness and delusion: for THIS guy to be spouting about having protected human rights (and clearly believing it) is deeply, deeply, DEEPLY WORRYING.

Someone really ought to call in the psychiatrists now, as this individual has VERY serious mental health issues ....

Post political career.....will not need one.

Take away a 'self-important' Thais buzzwords and they have very little. Zero substance.

He knows exactly what he's doing.

Attempting to look good to the rest of the world.

Unbe****lievable.

"PM Prayut makes human rights protection a national agenda"

Ok, why  not make it a hub or call human rights an invention by the Thai armed forces or a precursor for Thai Niyom, I need a strong drink....

I'm ecouraged by the incompetence. You know what's really scary, when competent people get into positions of power.

Oh please...

where's the difference to Obama talking about peace and justice, then killing hundreds with armed drones, no trial, keeping Guantanamo open and full of people without even a charge. Or Trump talking about taking on "the establishment" and then giving it (and himself) major tax-cuts and deregulations?

At least the Thai people didn't vote for their guy. We all did.

Thailand, land  of "lip service"
