Have a 15 year old male dog, who for the last 5 years have been double incontinent, due a partly paralyzed hind. Been walking very poorly during that period, but managed to get around. Got used to cleaning after him and his funny walking style. A week ago his hind legs gave up, meaning he can not move at all. No doubt he is suffering, so I contacted my normal vet to have him euthanized. He refused to do it....not for medical reasons (the dog is dying), but for religious reasons.

Found another vet, who was willing to give me a loaded syringe...but I had to inject myself. Not to keen on it...because if I screw up, it will make the dog suffer even more.

Was thinking of buying liquid Nembuthal and let the dog drink it. Will that work ? I know the Nembuthal will kill him, but will he drink it?

Any other advice most welcome.......Thank you.

A vet I knew in the uk use to use a local anesthetic to put dogs down, Lidocaine is the trade name available over here over the counter. but again it has to be administered  IV.

Our local vets use the blood vain in the front paw.
