webfact
Thailand to declare IUU-free Thailand FILE photo BANGKOK, 23 February 2018 (NNT) - The Spokeswoman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Bussadee Santipitak, said the Thai government will declare the policy of Thailand being freed from Illegal, Unreported, and Unregulated (IUU) fishing. In moving towards IUU-free Thailand, the country has built upon the reforms of all dimensions undertaken during nearly the past three years. The works include the reform of legal framework and implementing regulations, the fisheries management limiting the fishing license issuance in compliance with the quantity of aquatic animals, the fleet management putting control over fishing vessels of all sizes and types, the monitoring, control and surveillance through port-in and port-out control, installation of vessel monitoring system, and daily inspections at seas, as well as the development of traceability system for catches from Thai-flagged vessels and foreign vessels. To make the international community recognize IUU-free Thailand, Thai authorities will continue working on the development of the Thai catch certification system to be in compliance with international standards, while ensuring that workers on the fishing vessels are legal and protected under the universal principle. In addition, Thailand will join hands with the European Union (EU) for the system development, and with other flag states in verifying that the source of aquatic animals is not related to any illegal fishing activity. Thai officials have already started holding talks with other countries on this issue. Thailand's preparation for the IUU-free Thailand declaration is another step along the government’s path to ensuring the sustainability of the fisheries sector in the long run, and to mobilize the fisheries reform to be continuously carried out regardless of the change in the administration. -- nnt 2018-02-

This would have about as much value as the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) declaring that Thailand is corruption free.
Popular Post Lungstib
Wait a while, make a few more declarations of what Thailand is free from and we will be living in a corruption and pollution free country with great respect for human rights. 2

Popular Post Misterwhisper
Following this ludicrous claim, the Thai government also should consider declaring itself free of reason and credibility. However, I'm afraid the European Commission will probably demand some concrete proof and won't just be lulled in by a mere unilateral announcement. I recall that only two weeks ago a large fishing trawler was brought up with several hundred tons of illegal catch in its belly and none of the required monitoring equipment installed whatsoever. According to the Thai government's announcement that must've been the only and last commercial fishing vessel to still flaunt the law. There are now none left! Not one! 2

Popular Post spidermike007
Anytime Thailand declares itself anything, you can rest assured it is a lie. Many Thai people, and especially the increasingly desperate and grossly incompetent government, have a very strange relationship with truth. In that regard, they share something in common with the American leader. This proclamation is nothing but bald faced deflection. The amount of progress that has been made with regard to the eradication of slavery, human trafficking and the like, is astonishingly small. However, in the mind of Little P., a different universe exists. In his mind- The great and benevolent leader has already insured happiness. He is lowering unemployment. He is growing the economy. He is increasing tourism revenue. He is increasing exports. He is abiding by all of the terms of the ASEAN charters he signed, and allowing the duty free importation of all beer throughout ASEAN. They are on all of the supermarket shelves as we speak. We are not longer subject to the very low quality local beers. He is making visa policy easy, simple and streamlined, and all tourists are very happy about that. He is improving traffic and public safety. Corruption is being eliminated, and innocent fall guys are no longer getting charged for murder, and being put to death. The taxi mafia on Samui and Phuket have been eliminated, and tourists can now get a taxi at a fair price. Life is better for all now that this great man is demonstrating his genius and vision on a daily basis. All he cares about is the welfare of his own people, and the happiness of both tourists and the ex-pat community. He contemplates this day and night.
Bluespunk
So declaring something makes it so? Hmm, interesting... Got to be worth a try... lets see... I hereby declare the following: I am immortal, I am your wrathful god, I am the ruler of all I see, I am truely magnificent in all I say and do, My prowess is beyond compare, Watch and weep, as you view my majesty, pitiful mortals. William C F Pierce
Of course the EU doesn't see the 1000s of tiny Tuk-Tuk fishing dingys that put to sea daily from many small harbours. Very unlikely they will ever get covered by this.
