Teacher in lottery row has no fear of arrest

The Kanchanaburi schoolteacher vying with a former police officer over ownership of winning tickets in the November 1 lottery worth Bt30 million yesterday shrugged off a news report that he might become the subject of an arrest warrant.

Preecha Kraikruan expressed no fear over the possibility that warrants could be issued for him and his primary witness, lottery vendor Rattanaporn “Jeh Babin” Supathip.

Preecha is ensnared in a highly publicised dispute with retired policeman Charoon Wimul over the lottery winnings.

National police chief Pol General Chakthip Chaijinda is slated to announce the results of a police probe into the controversy on Wednesday afternoon.

In an interview on Tuesday morning, Preecha insisted the truth was on his side, so he had no fear of what others might do.

“The truth is that I lost the five lottery tickets that won the jackpot, so I don’t fret about whatever happens after that ... I am ready to face the truth,” he said. “Everyone is telling the truth,” he added, referring to himself and his two witnesses, both lottery vendors, “and it is for a court judge to prove who is the liar.”

Preecha said he had never made any direct accusations, nor harmed anyone.

Asked what he would do if he’s served with an arrest warrant and is summoned to the Crime Suppression Division, the teacher said he would be willing to go because he trusted the matter would be handled in accordance with legal procedures, including the gathering of evidence.

Preecha said the public should not be swayed by media reports, but rather hear what the police chief announces first.

He also dismissed a news report claiming he moonlighted as a money lender. “I don’t earn enough to lend out any money – I only just make ends meet every month,” he said.

Pol Lt-General Thitirat Nongharnpitak, commander of the Central Investigation Bureau, said that if arrest warrants were to be sought, there would be only one requested, for one individual, and it would be done on Wednesday morning, ahead of Chakthip’s announcement on the probe findings.

With the amount of Cops being implicated in this and being transferred Etc, if i were him i would be more worried about being 'subject to a bullet in the head' !

Then they would say it was suicide from depression from loosing the ticket and not getting his money!

As you have no evidence to back up your somewhat hard to credit claim on these tickets, I’m guessing it’s going to be you.

Arrest warrant to be sought for teacher in Bt30m lottery dispute

By THE NATION

ARREST WARRANTS will be sought today for a teacher and a lottery ticket vendor involved in the Bt30-million lottery controversy in Kanchanaburi, both of whom are accused of giving false information with malicious intent.

The suspects are schoolteacher Preecha Kraikruan – who challenged retired police officer Charoon Wimul’s ownership of the winning tickets in the November 1 draw – and vendor Rattanaporn “Jeh Babin” Supathip.

National police chief Pol General Chakthip Chaijinda is supposed to hold a press conference today suggesting there was a group of people making up the story.

Police indicated that Preecha and Rattanaporn fabricated the story four months ago to cheat the real owner of the lottery.

They will face three charges of giving false information concerning a criminal offence, giving information of an offence that they knew had not been committed, and giving such information with malicious intent against another person.

If found guilty, they could be sentenced to five years in prison or fined a maximum of Bt60,000.

Central Investigation Bureau commander Pol Lt-General Thitirat Nongharnpitak yesterday confirmed that warrants would be sought ahead of Chakthip’s announcement.

Preecha, however, said he was not afraid that warrants would be issued for him and his primary witness.

He added that the truth was on his side. “The truth is that I lost the five lottery tickets that won the jackpot, so I don’t fret about whatever happens after that ... I am ready to face the truth,” he said.

“Everyone is telling the truth,” he added, referring to himself and his two witnesses, both lottery vendors. “It is for a court judge to prove who is the liar.”

Preecha said he had never made any direct accusations or harmed anyone.

Asked what he would do if he were served with an arrest warrant and summoned by police, Preecha said he would not resist because he trusted the matter would be handled in accordance with legal procedures.

Preecha also dismissed a news report claiming he moonlighted as a moneylender. “I don’t earn enough to lend out any money – I only just make ends meet every month,” he said.
