Most family tourism is much more annoying to me than what comes along with the sex tourism, and I don’t partake in either; people pushing kids in strollers that are perfectly old enough to walk or small enough to carry in very crowded areas, screaming kids in hotels, families leaving tables in restaurants filthy like pigs, etc etc.

 

Ban family tourism, there are places for that sort of ilk, like Disneyland. I like Thailand how it traditionally has been - a place for adults to enjoy a variety of pleasures, whether that’s serene relaxation and clean massage or something of the more stimulating variety where there’s a mutually consensual exchange of money for service one cannot usually find in their home country.

In fact, there is very little about the early days of Pattaya, other than it was a beach with a fishing village till about the late 60s.

I am not aware that it was notorious for US troops in 1967. As I mentioned in another post, we went on a recommendation from an old American we met in Bangkok who had a guesthouse in Pattaya.

One of the things I always liked about Pattaya was that there were no families with their prams blocking the pavements, and their shrieking offspring in restaurants. I fear that is changing.

I rarely encounter these families. They mostly go to tourist traps. Not sure how expats would have a problem with them.

People sell their body for money. 99% of prostitutes in thailand catering to locals or longnoses are POOR girls. Im not saying 100% because on tvf there's always 1 who will claim "he knew a girl who did it for the fun"... so if Prayutosaurus wants to deal with it he must deal with poverty. Unfortunately this man and his supporters NEED poverty (and ignorance) in order to exist. In other words: kin khao yang?

Does this mean government officials are no longer allowed to have

The foreigners using thai prostitutes is maybe 10% of the business? Thai girls will always do this work if they see it as easy money and they gain face back home by supporting whole families, tourists or not. 

You guys (rightly) pointing out that the vast majority of men utilizing prostitutes are Thai are missing the point: it’s not the actual prostitution that’s bothering Prayut, otherwise this would’ve become a thing much much earlier; it’s the loss of face he and the country suffered as a result of some politician from Africa disparaging Thailand for its (well deserved?) worldwide reputation. That is all about the 10% of foreigners who go home to their own countries raving about how nice it is to P4P.

On a larger and wider turn of the spiral it is NOT in the elites interest to have an educated citizenry as coups and corruption could not happen on the scale we see now. You have clearly forgot what the original post was regarding. My posts were regarding Pattaya transitioning after a severe crackdown on sex tourism (will not happen anyway, not so suddenly at least). Also I did not really need the reviews on various gogo bars in Pattaya, but the point is that many centrally located sois are dominated with p4p establishments, whether they are gogo bars or standard beer bars. I really do not see how that can be argued against.

Actually I do have an idea why the current mob of tourists visit and it's nothing to do with the bar scene.

It would be more true to say I have no idea why any other than package tourists come to Pattaya unless for the bar scene, as it's a hole and there are actually really nice beaches to visit for those that want a beach holiday, but those pictures in the travel agent's brochures really do portray a pigs ear as a silk purse.

If anything, the non bar element for any other than package tourists is built on BS that somehow Pattaya is some sort of Riviera. However, we can be thankful that at least the bagpacker element never got fooled enough to turn up.

You are correct that it is more about the visibility of it than the existence. Even if he got rid of it 100%, mongers would just start using the Thai places.

Well, if the PM wants to solve this situation (along with a few others), he could make a good start by creating a fairer society where Thais from one section of society are not openly discriminated against by the system and those more fortunate, educated or in positions which allow for habitual corruption or sweeping decisions effecting other peoples' lives. Also, give them a valid choice with jobs that amount to more than slave labour with the chance of working hard and progressing up the social ladder etc. Till that happens (plus a couple other things) then you can say all the fine words you want...won't change a thing. You can't just wave the section 44 wand and all vice just disappears...these people need to be convinced there's a better life possible doing something else, and I see no chance of that coming around anytime soon. Yes, Thailand doesn't have a prostitution problem, given the country is the chief beneficiary. It has willingly fostered this reputation since the earliest days of tourism and foreign trade. Proliferation of this has been inevitable due to the massive lack of opportunity for any prosperity in a large part of the population. 

 

What it does have is a major problem concerning pride and loss of face, which means it's unable to treat an ill judged comment from a banana republic (with it's own prostitution problem, including underage) with the disdain it deserves. This place really needs a foreign policy spokesman who understands diplomacy when it comes to dealing with announcements on the world stage.

 

This problem will go away in exactly the same way as on previous occasions. Due to one of their other well known shortcomings, a sort of national attention deficit disorder,  once the news coverage has died down it'll be back to business as usual.

They are a constant feed for prostitution businesses which make money for people who feed some of it right up the ladder. Remember the recent Somyot story? Nobody in the current government or past governments of any political persuasion were ever interested in tackling this issue. Too much money at stake. Too may toes to be trodden on. Prayuth's words are as empty as a seashell, and as worthless as a clutch of sand.

I know women who were making 15k a month plus in decent jobs and they CHOSE to work in bars instead. Both College educated. It's not as simple as you make out.

 

There's a glut of educated people and they can't make the money in a 'normal' job that they can in the world's oldest profession.

I have seen this as well, about 10 years ago I was chatting with a girl in the bar and she told me her life story and about how she had a degree in management, so I asked her why she was in the bar,she pointed to three other girls in the bar who went to university with her,same as them she said,even with a degree we cant find good work and we have to pay off the debts that our parents have taken on to educate us.

I can only feel sorry for any guy unable to experience a female having an orgasm. It is of course up to the male to enable it though.
